Default Blinking Generator light at idle in 3.2

Hi:

I have an 89 carrera I bought recently and the car has been running great.
Then, this morning when I started her up in the pouring down rain, the generator light was blinking. I took my hour and half commute into the city and she ran fine in the monsoon rains. When, I got into the city, the generator light would start blinking again at stoplights, basically at idle. I never had this problem in any of my previous 911s. When the alterantor in my other cars was going it made noise for several months before it died and the battery is not that old.
Any ideas? Is that just from the wet conditions? I think it had been raining most of the night. It runs great aside from the generator light at idle.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Alternator needs replacing, especially if over 100K without a replacment.
The light should be on in the "run" position and go off off once the car
starts and it should stay off.

Have Fun

Sounds like belt may be slipping due to dampness, low idle speed, and current drain.. lights, wipers, etc. Check belt tension, check idle speed, check output at idle with meter.

My '86 did the same thing. Light would blink once in awhile at idle. Had the alternator rebuilt at a local shop for about $130 and never had a problem after that. The brushes were quite worn after 90,000 miles.

I do agree too that you should check your alt belt to insure nothing is slipping.
