1987 Value Assistance
I normally hang out with the water cooled area with my 928, so don't hold it against me - I am looking for some assistance to establish value on an '87 911. Mileage is unconfirmed but should be a bit north of 152,790 (when it was last inspected in June 2017), paint is near perfect, likewise is the interior, fuchs were recently redone with new rubber. The motor was rebuilt just prior to his purchase 4 years ago.
I purchased an '82 928 with a ton of receipts from a gentleman 4 years ago - he had it 13 yrs and the prior owner had it 15 both using the same mechanic. He was selling the 928 as he purchased this 911. The gentleman passed away in Sept. I tried to reach out and left messages over a month ago about the status and his wife finally got back to me last week. Apparently the car had been sitting idle since Sept and she is looking to off load it. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

It sounds like you're trying to establish a fair market value so you can ethically compensate his widow. You're a good human. I would agree it sounds like 35k is fair. But if you make it easy for her then you are justified getting a good deal. If you hadn't reached out it may have sat there for years and rusted. I would feel comfortable giving her 28k cash, and protecting her from ANY legwork whatsoever. That means you handle every last detail and all she does is sign the title.

Coupe, Targa or Convertible? If coupe and it's easily a $35- $45k car if it's as described - "87 911. mileage is unconfirmed but should be a bit north of 152,790 (when it was last inspected in June 2017), paint is near perfect, likewise is the interior, fuchs were recently redone with new rubber. Check these recent sales for comps of G50 coupes. Obviously actual condition and documentation are going to play a big role in it's price. If it's a rare color Coupe expect more than $40k easily if the paint, interior are near perfect and motor has a documented rebuild.

I keep a pretty close eye on the G50 market. 45-55k is a likely range depending on your car and the market you live in. 60k if you have a rebuilt motor and are selling retail.

The car is a coupe; sorry for missing that detail. I talked to the owner of the shop that has maintained the car and it is a very solid 911. I honestly doubt the mileage is too far from at the last inspection. As I embark with this I will definitely get the exact miles (the 911 sits only an hour from me). I really appreciate the input..

Even if me put an additional 10K miles on it, that isn't going to changers the equation much. A very nice '88 Targa was purchased in Iowa last summer for $12K by a young local photographer. Your price point will be somewhere between there and $60K.

$40-45k all day long. A high mile but well maintained 88 Coupe just brought over $55k on BaT. I sold my 86 for $40k recently. 113k mi, special color driver condition.

Update: Please review the pics from Sat. It is clean, but dusty from being uncovered. Paint is really nice. Interior is equally as nice, although the driver's bolster piping is exposed. Upgraded Porsche stereo head unit. New rubber on refinished fuchs. I made an offer that wasn't declined yet. I will give the widow 2 weeks and contact her. The gentleman died in Oct, but was hospitalized since Aug-so the car sat since then. The widow is selling the house and the 2 children don't want the 911. I may get lucky!

I think if you got it for $35K you got one hell of a deal. Wait to see what she says - be prepared to offer a few thousand more. I would be prepared to get that car the day you speak with her - flatbed or otherwise, cash in hand. I wish I could find a deal like that.

Does it have a very modern :"Classic Porsche" head unit (i.e. radio and navigation unit) in it? It look like it from the first of your photos. If so that alone is worth a lot of money - guess at $1800. It also shows that the deceased owner did not spare much when it came to looking after his special car. Good luck to you and the selling widow.

That's a Porsche Classic Radio. Anything under $40k you are getting a great deal on that car.
