Default Gas Fumes

I have a 82 911 SC and I have gas (Fuel) odor that seems to be centered at the front of the car. It is not terribly strong but I can detect it as I walk by the car and when parked in my garage. I have not detected any visible gas leaks Also the car runs fine. Where should I begin to look for the source of this gas (Fuel) odor?

Does the SC have a fuel pump located under the car aft of the steering rack?

First thing I'd check is the gasket on the gas cap. Common for it to develop cracks that allow vapors out.

Supply line after fuel pump leaking
I have an 82' sc. Last summer I smelt fumes one day in my garage. Took skid plate off and found leaks before and after fuel pump. Look at the rough shape my lines were in. Replaced them all.

did you replace the " through body " ones too ? I heard they are a real nightmare . or is the sc steel and you just attach at front and back ? I have never really checked mine .

the tunnel will have either steel or plastic lines - they last a long time except for one or two MY's in the 1970s (I forget which) - people make replacements - IIRC BoxsterGT makes them

ALL rubber fuel hoses MUST be replaced with EtOH rated hoses for the correct pressure. IF you have not done so do it right away, and don't forget the ones from the tank to tunnel (see pic above) under the car. On my '73.5 they were different sizes (as you'd expect, the outlet is larger).

I went through this on my 79 SC and it turned out I just needed a new fuel cap.

I replaced all the lines in diagram to the tunnel couplers
