What color to paint ?
I purchased a 84 targa (my last one was in a terrible accident) and the paint needs to be done. (every panel is alligatored) The price reflected the need to paint. So now I am trying to decide which color to paint it. The car is currently white (which no offence to anyone I cant stand)
I like red but I see a zillion red ones so I am not going to paint it red.
My last one was a champange color which I liked alot but don't know if I want a duplicate to what I had.
Does anyone have some pics of some cool other colors ? I hear that porsche had a cool Midnight blue, and a couple other blues that were pretty sharp.
I am currently stripping all the parts off the car to paint it so I have some time to think about it.

Winered Metallic! (See to your left ...)
Seriously, if you don't like red and white, you should go with silver or a black / dark blue. Silver is one of the timeless colors in my eyes. What's your interior? I'd shy away from anything that resembles gold or brown.
Try paintscratch.com to see some factory porsche colors for your year. I'd keep it an available color for that year, even if it isn't a show car, it makes good sense.
Cheers, George

A re-paint of the same color apparently has less of a detrimental effect on the car's value than a re-paint of a new color but 'at the end of the day' you have to like it and be willing to live w/ it as well as its affect on the car's value. Personally I love the the gp white/navy combo on my Cab - white looks great and is easier to keep *looking* clean than a dark color like black or dark blue (but either looks awesome when clean!). Look at pictures and other 911s and see what strikes your eye!

Having recently faced the same dilemma ...
... I eventually opted for silver. The car isn't finished yet, so this is a pic I found on the web rather than mine, but it gives the basic idea:
Of course, deciding 'silver' wasn't the end of it - the paintshop sent me sample books with a total of 43 Porsche and Mercedes silvers!!!
Pics of mine when I get her back between xmas and new year.

Do you already have a paint shop in mind? Do you know of a good one in "our" neighborhood? ( I live in Manhattan Beach). Mine is currently Red, but had thoughts of changing colors (to Black).
Here's my ride. Give me a shout-out if you see me cruising PCH.

Copy that to your browser, it's a recent Pelican thread about what color to paint an RSR, but there's lots of pics there of cool factory colors, some beautiful blues.

unusual combo
I passed on purchasing 3 guards reds (2 w/tan interior, 1 w/black) for the 911 turbo meteor metallic w/burgundy interior. I think I made the right choice !

Well, its not an original Porsche color, but look at Honda Nighthawk Black, the variant with the blue pearl- there are 3 diff pearls available, IIRC. Did a Targa w/ this recently and am very happy.

Diamond Blue Metallic... It's an 80's Carrera and one of the cooler looking colors. In bright sunshine it looks grey/smoke/silver - in photograps it has a little purple hue - in rain /cloudy it looks blue...
