Default Fort Collins Area Service Recommendation

If anyone has a recommendation for a good shop in the Fort Collins area please let me know!

So far I'm aware of:
Poudre Sports Car
SCR Performance (in Loveland)

Thanks!

PS, if there's any local events of folks that would be interested in a drive (once my car is running or get together let me know, we just moved out here.

Poudre Sports Car, definitely.

For organized drives, the Rocky Mountain Region chapter of PCA is your best bet. Informal drives outside of PCA get organized from time to time.

Welcome to the Front Range.

What do you need done? Poudre is a good option for general service and maintenance.

I'm not sure. Hypothesis is a fuel related issue. I've had a recurring issue with no pattern to frequency or timing wherein the car loses power, doesn't respond to throttle input, and then may regain power and start acting completely normal, or die altogether. The last two times it did this, it restarted immediately and didn't do it again for a couple hundred miles. This weekend, it sat at idle for five or ten minutes with no problem, and then died half a block from the driveway, and will not restart.

My former mechanic couldn't find any issue, but when he had it, it wasn't acting up.

Could be spark instead of fuel. The symptoms sound like a dying DME relay, which is a simple fix.

Thanks Dave, I'm pretty sure I've got a spare DME, I'll test it tonight.

Ok, so DME was a good theory, and the car started right up after swapping. Idle seemed fine so I pulled out of the driveway, made it half a block and it started to flutter again, wouldn't respond to throttle input, then died.

New theory is old gas. It's sat since June with a quarter tank of high octane. Considering adding ten gallons of new fuel and trying again. Thoughts??

I would get old gas out of the tank- pull out float and suck it/ pump it out. before you put fresh gas in it. You would think that June is not that long for gas to sit - but could have had a little water or crap from bottom of gas station holding tank in it.

Could be your fuel filter- I know I am OCD, but I would replace filter after putting in fresh gas and if it runs well, I would replace it again after running a tank of gas through it, just so you have piece of mind that it's clean and didn't catch stuff from bottom of tank.

Gas sitting since June is not "old gas". My 911 racecar sits all winter with VP110 in the tank and runs just fine in the spring. My 997 cab sits all winter with 91 octane in the tank and runs just fine in the spring. That doesn't mean you don't have crap in the tank; it just isn't due to your current gas.

Welcome to the Front Range, by the way.

Never heard of them. What is their actual name?

Another for saying you do not have old gas.

no disrespect, but I drove by this shop and choose to drive faster than brake. (There is a gas station nearby where I buy 400 gallons of Ethanol free high octane Twice per year)

One more vote vote for Poudre Sports Car on S. College for air cooled pcar. I knew the owner (Steve) for 30 years now RIP. The rest of the crew is still there and know their air cooled cars really well

Steve built the motor and the tranny in my 930. He added Big Reds in my RSA, ..., saved my from buying a bad 82SC from some pompous PCA dude.

As far as SCR, they are really great but are not what I would call air cooled experts. I haul my M-coupe to them as they are S52/S54 and track car experts. And overall good guys. Mostly a race shop, so they know about quality work.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the recs all. "European" was a suggestion from someone in my neighborhood. I'm going to have it towed to Poudre this weekend.

Poudre Sports did a great job getting things sorted out.

Ended up being a bad head temp sensor, resulting in flooding.

Thanks all!
