Question To install Roll Bar or not

Hi, I was trying to find out the Rennlist 911 Forum opinion on roll bars. This is to get the pros/cons of installing a roll bar in a slantnose cabriolet. The car does not track, just highway fun. If for installing the bar, what type/brand would be recomended? Thanks. :-)

There's recently been a discussion on the Rennlist racing forum. But I have to ask, if not used on the track, you want to put a roll cage in your cab? I can see a roll bar, and there are a number of choices (both bolt-in and weld), but a cage? Be really sure that's what you want - the aesthetics of a cage in a non-track cab might be pretty low. And potentially hitting your head against the bar above the door needs to be considered. If you decide you really want a cage, I'd install the lower harness seat belts (not shoulder or sub belts), and use those in addition to your stock seat belts, to keep your butt more firmly in the seat and try to keep your head away from the rollcage.

If you're interested in a rollbar, DAS makes one which bolts in and sits on the sills (I had one in my SC coupe). I'd avoid one where it's feet sit on the floor, unless you weld in a support plate (an 'L' shaped plate welded to the sill and floor would work).

Thanks a lot Bill, I made a Boo-Boo stating, a role cage. Brain was thinking roll bar, fingers typed roll cage, DUHH. Either way, I would not want it to be in the way of getting in or out of the car, nor interfere with the cab. top function. Thanks, Tony.

Tony,

I've done that myself. BTW, DAS bars can be seen here. (No affiliation, just used them in my SC and C2).

I use the DAS rollbar in my 911. It's your best choice. But if you don't plan to track the car, keep in mind that the roll bar will limit your use of the back seat.
