Default Is 130psi in each cylinder OK?

Did compression test on my 73e, bone stock, at operating temp, WOT, all plugs out, about 10 revs per cylinder. Did not put oil in the cyls. Got 130psi +-2 in each cylinder. Does 130psi seem OK for stock 2.4e? I read recently of another e that had 135 in each cyl and the owner wasnt happy. But I dont know whats good and whats not so good.

Thanks

Hi Joe, I know the specs. for a stock 3.2 is supposedly 130psi. I'm not quite sure about the 2.4e. It seems to me that 130psi should be in the ballpark. I have seen operating pressures anywhere between 130-150psi. The bigest factor in the pressures is that they are all very close to the same pressure in all cylinders.

Hi Joe:

That's not bad. Since all of your cylinders were even, thats the tell-tale here that you are OK.

Personally, I would follow that up with a leakdown test and see WHERE any leakage is ocurring.

For something so simple and for people who are so interested in cars, it’s amazing that no one seems to know what compression values should be for Porsches. I’ve seen numbers from 110 to 180. CR and cams do affect the pressure. From all I can gather, 150 seems the target for 8/8.5 to 1 engines and 170 for 9+ to 1 engines.

My SC was around 120 when I bought it. I’ve had it for two years, drive it every day, it doesn’t use oil and runs fine. So go figure.

My SC is also in the 120 range. I would expect an E to be lower than the usual 150 expectation due to cam timing.

How about a poll on this?
