Default Transmission Shop

Hey Guys,

I am in the process of rebuilding my 923/02 (915) transmission in my 1976 Porsche 912E. I would like to have the case cleaned and inspected. I also need to have the bearing guides removed and replaced in the case. Where do you recommend I go to have this work done? I live in the Los Angeles area.

Thanks,

Rod

My friend Marc Bixon is the proud owner of Peter Zimmerman's old shop.

Awesome. Marc is known to only work on the 911....and most take that to mean he won't work on the 914...not sure about the 912. I think it's all tongue in cheek because I know he spends weekends pit crewing for Ferrari and I've seen a 962 in his shop.

Well the 912E has a modified 915 tranny in it. Hopefully he will work on it for me.

Maybe it means he doesn't work on the 924, 944, 951, 968, 928 variants.

It's just a 915 with a 914 clutch spline on the mainshaft. He will do it.

If he doesn't want it, take it to Marco at TLG.

Default HELP!!!

Hey guys,

I just received my new first gear and main shaft. The gear is marked #9724, but the shaft is marked #9725. That doesn't match. What do I do now?

Thanks,

Rod

Don't lose any sleep over it. It's probably been mismatched since the day it was made. People get all worked up in keeping the gears matched, but it's mostly the ring and pinion where that matters. Even then it really only matters for keeping it quiet. We've mixed them up in racecars for decades.

Feel free to post some pictures of the teeth and I'll look at them. Is new or used?

Can let us know how it goes with Redline and the tranny work? I'm local and see this project in my future. Thanks.

Ha, funny you responded to this post Matt. You were recommended to me by Kevin. The gear and shaft are new. I ordered them thru Cog's Cog's. He said he had to order it from Germany.

I took my main shaft over to him and he removed the nut for me. When I wanted to take my case to him, he was too busy to work on it. He was booked for over a month. Nice guy. He must be doing something right to be that busy.

Well, Joe at Cog's Cog's is unresponsive so I'm going to install the mismatched gears. I can't afford to spend another $1400.00 for another set. I hope I don't regret my decision. Besides, it's first gear and I'm not going to be driving around in 1st for very long at a time.

Matt,

I have a couple of questions for ya. How often does Porsche send out a new set of gears with the dog tooth gear installed? Take a look at the picture of the shaft. Does that look like a new shaft?
