G50 transmission - rubber shift boot? Pics?
Hi All!
I recently got a 1988 3.2 and am in process of modifying the interior to suit my tastes. I really don't like the look of the leather shift boot that comes standard on the G50 shifters. I prefer the "cheaper" rubber shift boot on the SCs. Does anyone know if those rubber shift boots will fit properly on the G50 shift lever? Any pics?
Thanks much!

Any excuse to post my interior.
I used the leftover dead cow from my door skins to make a new shift boot for my G50. I even recovered my shift **** with the same dead cow....then turned the cow's brother right side out and covered a certain movie star's old Sparcos seats with it too. Can you say delete delete delete....?
Anyway, there is a metal ring on the bottom of the boot that I reused in my new one that helps hold the shape. That ring just floats on the carpet. Simple work.

Amber Gramps always here for the great info! thanks man!
Digging the interior and the seats. It's sooo hard to find a shop up here in northern cali that does seat upholstery on race seats. I have a pair of sparcos i'm trying to get customized and I can't for the life of me find a place that works on race seats. sigh...
i never see anyone with the rubber shift boot on the 3.2s. just wondering if they don't fit correctly?
thanks again,
leon

Buy the boot and try it. They are cheap.
The seats started as monster wide EVO 3 Sparco seats that I cut the shoulders off of and reshaped to fit the car. I pulled them from a car that belonged to some actor who's last name is the same as my first.
Once I had them shaped how I wanted them I applied the foam I wanted from one of my vendors at work. Perfect memory type foam....to the sides and back. The bottoms obviously came from Sparco down in Orange County. Then I took the remains of a dead cow to a local upholstery shop who sent me to yet another shop who then sent me to the guy they knew that could do them....paid him a few hundred bucks and voila heavy full grain leather Sparco seats you don't want to get out of.
Again, just buy a boot and try it.

Hello,
Here's how to fit a 915 rubber boot into a G50 center console. G50 center console hole diameter is bigger than 915 thus boot will become loose & come out of the hole when you shift thus making it unsightly.
The solution is to add a layer of leather / vinyl / foam to hold the rubber boot base from coming off of the hole of the center console.
Stuffs needed:
1. Sheet of leather / vinyl / foam ( I use foam)
2. Glue.
3. Scissor.
Steps:
1. Cut a hole on the foam the size of boot diameter.
2. Glue the edge of the foam onto the console from inside.
3. Slide the boot through the foam.

Unfortunately the pictures can't be shown on Photobucket cause I did not upgrade. I can send you pictures to your email or phone, just PM me.

Thank you for the info and images!
I actually don't have a center console in my car. I wasn't quite sure if the diameter of the rubber SC boot was large enough to go over the exposed shifter linkage. I am fairly certain it will and hopefully it will set well if not I'll mod it like you did.
thanks!
