Porsche Marketing?
I'm also posting this in the 951 forum ( we might be next): I've had a marketing career for over 25 years and I mostly get it. But why does Pano, (see eBrake news July 25 and eventually the July issue) publish a track time comparison of a 2017 Macan GTS vs. a '87 951? Is Porsche trying to prove they are good at tech advancements? 30 years, OK, wow, you did it, no need to eat your elders. I am unhappy that this article was published, not because the GTS beat the 951 but because I believe it disrespects the history of the development of the 951 and the article is a pure marketing ploy that's unnecessary. Why not publish a comparison of the Macan GTS vs a current competitor?

You are looking at it from the wrong direction. The point is that SUVs are now so good they can hold their own with such a fine sportscar as a 951. Maybe they just had to go back that far to find one the Macan can beat?

I don't read pano as it goes right in my blue box since Pete left but isn't it a club magazine ? Was the article done by Porsche or a couple of club yobs ?

Against a current competitor, might not work out that great. The Merc GLA AMG has 375hp and weighs 700lbs less than a Macan.

I've e mailed ebrake news with my issues regarding this article, now in print, the author is a former New York Times auto section editor, he is a "sports car" guy, a journalist, not clear who put him up to it. At this point they are saying Porsche allows journalists to form their own opinion to maintain integrity of journalistic magazines. I am crafting a letter to The Editor to express my opinion.

I just found out that on last month's road and track they ran a 1967 911S against the Macan GTS, and the 50 year old little car kicked the 4500 lbs piglet's *** to the tune of 3 secs per lap, albeit on race tires. So there's that.

okay I read the article . I thought it was kinda cool and reminded me of my own 944. I read it as the 951 still competitive all these years later.
To be brutally honest I think some 944 based guys have somewhat inferiority complexes and feel they have to defend their cars at all times.
I run a charity fall run with 85 cars sometimes and it is brutally hard to get 944 guys to come out as they feel they don't belong, yet we have Cayennes there and the odd Pano .. seriously ?
we once had a Rose 944 Turbo S once and it was the talking point of the day as you see so few of them
I just dont get it being a former 944S owner myself.

I love the 944, always had, and was seriously considering a 951 (vs an SC) as a track car many years back. These are great cars and, setup well, still "hold their own" despite their years. Like the venerable 911, of course. It's a testament to the original mantra of Porsche: race the car on Saturday, drive it to work on Monday.
I "think" (guess?) the article's intent was to praise the factory, that their wares still hold up even today. On that point I will agree. The article?...I'll leave that up to opinion
