Short term memory is the second thing to go, desire to drive a Porsche must be the third.

I remember clearly test driving a '66 911 in '72 shortly after graduating college. I was darting all over the road because the steering was so responsive compared to my truck.(couldn't get the loan).

She's 16, I'm 52. It's driving me crazy that I won't be able to take her out for a while due to the 3 feet of snow here in the last 10 days.

Well, I'll be 60 this July and the Porsche light shines as brightly as it did 25 years ago. I recently changed cars from an 83 SC (which I had for 11 years) to a 93 C2 which I use for a daily driver. The C2 is more civilized, with power steering and the G-50 tranny, but it is a blast to drive. I "drilled" the airbox and installed a secondary muffler bypass for a slight (maybe )improvement in low end torque. But the sound is great, particularly under heavy acceleration above 4k rpm. The next mod is an H&R springs/Bilsteins set up to get the car a bit lower and improve its handling.

Even at my age, I still look for excuses to go for a drive, like taking the "real long" way to the post office. Unless there is a significant decrease in my health, I just don't see me ever getting too old for the Porsche! It keeps me young!

Vasek Polak, the legendary South Bay Porsche dealer, drove Porsche's until his death at 82. He wrecked a new 911 turbo S he was driving on the autobahn. His injuries caused him to be sent home and he died enroute. Apparently he was doing >110 mph at the time of the crash. I don't know whether his age had anything to do with the crash, but he sure seemed to be still enjoying the p-cars!

What IS this nonsense about being too old for a Porsche?!? I'm 78--drive her daily--and plan for "Jessie" to be my skate until they drag me kicking and screaming to the big oven! Age is more a state of mind than anything else--it's a virus that positively can't hurt you while you're driving your Porsche, fishing, making love, or sipping sour mash! Go enjoy!

Cool

Hey, what's with this 60 stuff!!??!!
I'm 59, have a 914/6 with 2.7L hot rod engine, and a 928 32V, and looking for a 993. Having just about become an adult, I find the 928 is growing on me (air, auto, etc.), but the only reason I got it was an accident and knee surgery and the resultant doctor's orders to "get an automatic until your knee heals". Now I must wait until I wear it out (good luck!)so I can modify it and get MORE POWER out of the thing.
Then I made the mistake of driving some go karts the other day at a track, and may be hooked on those
Well, it's time to go to the gym to stay in shape so I can keep on doing this Porsche thing!

Hey guys!

As long as I can draw a breath and get into my Carrera, I'm a happy camper!!! This is my third 911 over the past quarter century. I am now fifty something and am very grateful to be the "keeper of the keys" to this great automobile. As far as I am concerned, this Factory Turbo-Look coupe will most likely be my last car... Having seen and lusted after this body style since the original IROC series in 1974, I have little interest in any other. The only plan I have is to possibly upgrade it to a supercharged 3.6L with a shortened G-50 tranny. With over 400hp and weighing in at approx. 2700lbs., it just may be fast enough to take me back in time... I know it might seem a little "foolish" to invest so much money into an older car, but I still like the 930 look and always will. I guess it’s the "kid" in me that likes hot rodding an older car to compete with newer and more expensive ones. Let's face it an "old" man driving a "sleeper" would be great wouldn't it?

Yep, it makes me feel young all over! Having been imprinted at an early age by my cousin's new 1958 Carrera coupe and still alive to talk about it is a great blessing. I am hoping to have enough income to support my car for the rest of my earthly sojourn. I have always had a great appreciation for Porsche and always will. I am so happy to see younger folks taking an interest in this great automotive marque. Keep it up! I am taking good care of mine, so when the time comes, it will be passed on to another like a well-used baton in a long-distance relay race. "No old Porsches, just new owners!"

The only possible antidote, which holds any hope of warding off this dreaded disease is to stay healthy, remain alert and never stop driving the good Doctor's dream!!!

My two cents... Cheers!

I just turned 53. I bought my first 911 on Ebay last Feb. It is now stripped, mounted on a "rotisserie" in my garage and I am starting the process of a complet rebuild! Am I senile? Help!

Son of an ireppressible 73 year old who took delivery of his '03 year 996 Turbo a few months ago..... He likes it a lot - and I still haven't managed to liberate the keys.....

At 34 I'm beginning to understand that i'm never going to be quicker than him, however old he is

I think the only disease is the porsche disease, when you first drive one and can't pry the possiblity of owning one from your mind for the rest of your life (not even the jaws of life can help you). I am 19 years old, been hooked since 15. I've tried to drive other cars, audi tt, jetta 1.8t, jetta vr6, rx-7, etc. Nothing is ever the same, and what's wierd is that i was introduced on a 924s automatic only running on three cylinders (one of the injectors were shot). I am on my 3rd porsche in only 4 1/2 years. There's no such thing as "can't drive a porsche from old age disease." There are only the unfortunate souls that loose the disease somehow, most after death, but some before. As for me, the sickness is strong and i embrace every part of it.
