Default Air Ram modification worth it?

I can't find any posts on Air Ram modification ? Porsche clearly thinks it works but how about post adding to earlier 996 GT3s? Unless this brings up another K N vs. Stock air filter discussion. Cheapest air ram I've found is FVD.DE but won't buy if not worth it based on the experience within this board. Just got my 05 GT3 a couple of months ago.

I like the cup version but $$$ and no provision for maf sensor unless it's possible to tap a bung to it. 911slow mentioned gruppeM but that's pricey too. I rather keep stock and do lw exhaust key is lw. Mike

Mike he is talking about the lid ram air scoop which WORKS. Porsche quoted 10hp over 160klm and Manthey as well. That's why they fit it to their cars from the 996rs and on.

Here's a pic of the carbon version from GMG (kinda pricey though at $790):

This carbon version attaches with double sided tape. The FVD one requires drilling and uses 3 bolts. At least it won't fly off.

You mean when I was pretending to be like you and mowing the grass? Nope. Not caught on film.

There is a video of my driving coach doing a few laps in my car. That's much better than any of me driving. I can start a new thread.

I've also been wondering if these make much of an improvement. They are standard on the 997-3, yes?

Yes they do fit it and it works by increasing the pressure in the intake manifold at high speeds .

This is something that you won't see in a rolling dyno run or with an engine dyno.
What you can see is in a wind tunnel how much this duct will raise intake pressure and then estimate a gain.

They say it's between 10 and 18 hp from 160 to 300 klm depending on who you quote..
Manthey says 10hp at 200 klm
Porsche officially never gave a number but in the 996RS brochure had a line that this duct enhances the engine's performance..
Andreas Preuninger said in an interview that the intake raises pressure by 15 Milibars at 300klm, and that this is enough to create an additional 15hp.

One thing is for sure it makes sense and that's why I fitted mine and also used bolts because I couldn't trust the glue only approach. We already have front lips flying off didn’t want to add another : )

Hope these pics come out OK. I plan to be active on this board to keep you guys in the loop of an 80k++ mile GT3 with plans for DEs in 2011. Already did one at Monticello and did major grass clipping a few turns before carousel. Went flat out in esses section with street tires. Car is wicked fast with just light flywheel and stock everything else. I've driven 993, Cayman, and 73 911 prior to taking this 'new' water pumper. Cayman S was good but sold as I'd almost fall asleep going around tracks like Lime Rock and Glen. '73 gives me boogie time and this GT3 even more with all the giddy-up when pushing at apexes to track out. Nearly lost the car though so need to take things more slowly next time (that's what I always say then do the reverse!).
