Default KW Variant 3 coilovers: A short review

In a word, these things are awesome. I've driven or ridden in nearly all of the other suspension systems for these cars (except Moton) and the KW's blow the rest away. I saw 333pg333 singing their praises on the forum, as well as some of our European friends. They were right.

My car is not a garage queen nor weekend toy, I shred in this thing every day, to and from work. I needed a good compromise. The car is so flat, yet the ride quality and road feel is amazing. One of the most impressive aspects is the increase in traction; the car is simply faster.

Anyway, if you've tried the rest...

Blew out my LF strut in 6 months. KW refused to send me a replacement, even when I offered to pay a core charge. I had to take them off the car and ship them to KW, who rebuilt the strut. That took a month. If I hadn't said something, they would've shipped them back to me COD as well.

This is in sharp contrast to Koni, Bilstein and H&R, all of whom have sent me another strut no questions asked...

Rather than have my car down for a month, I bought another entirely different suspension.

Where'd you order the KW's from and how much were they?

Well I hate to say it but you're the first person I've ever heard that has had a problem with KW's and that's in quite a few countries around the world. The service side is something else however annoying. Sorry to hear of your troubles but I still believe that they're a fantastic product.

Last year I phoned HPA Motorsports in Vancouver - 604-598-8520 ext.103 and spoke to Jared. I think he quoted me $3200 canadian shipped plus GST. That was for a set of Variant 3 for my 968 Turbo. The spring rates in the package are 340 front and 285 rear keeping the stock torsion bar.

I just went to HPA website and see that the Variant 3's are now priced at $2650.

It's nice to see HPA has adjusted the pricing for the exhange rate. I'm sure glad I didn't buy them last year when they quoted me $3400.

We should see if we can get a small break for buying two sets.

Did you have to adjust your torsion bar to keep the ride height correct?

HPA is big on the VW scene. They did VW's cars at the last International Auto Show. They turn out some sick turbo R32's, no dollar limit. Feedback from the R32 guys on the KW V3's has been outstanding.

I'm just glad I listened! You definitely deserve commission if you can get a Yank to buy them

The sound great but if the customer service is lacking, H&R is pretty hard to beat. Anyone know what the H&R's would cost comparatively?
