So If I understand correctly, when the PSE button is pressed, on top of the opening of the valves, it also changes the sound symposer to be louder with induction sound? So would that mean if you have a valve controller, would having the valves open with the controller, but pse button off have a slightly different sound then with the PSE button on?

This is a nice and informative video on how the sound symposer works in the 718 (starting at the 7 min mark). I find it to be accurate with my Kline exhaust. To answer your questions, if PSE switch is off and valves are held open (with a valve controller or disconnected vacuum lines), there is no intake sound in the cabin. I have open valves and I always leave the PSE switch on (automatically comes on in sport mode). The intake sound is rather weak but noticeable.

I do wonder if a tuner could adjust where the symposer opens and closes. For those who don't mind doing software tunes and want more intake noise at low volume without buying a GT4 RS style airbox. I'm still on the fence on if I even like it or not. Will try running with and without once I install the valve controller and OAP.

What I notice with video/audio reviews of aftermarket exhausts (and there are a plethora of them), is that they focus on external sound and very little on the auditory experience in the cabin. And even with the former, the emphasis is mostly on sound produced by the exhaust at high engine speeds. I find them to be entertaining but of limited value for my style of driving. I would rather have an enjoyable soundtrack inside the car at reasonable engine speeds than annoy people with a loud sound produced by an exhaust at high rpm. It is not often that I can drive like that on backroads anyway.

I've always felt the same way. When dealing with exhaust options for my F80, C7Z - all the focus was on the exhaust sound with the windows rolled down and high RPM etc. But windows up on freeway or even on track with the wind blast from the windows, you can barely hear anything. That's why I want to find ways to increase induction sound.

You're crazy man!!
Figure out the solution to your exhaust first (do it once with Kline), and forget about induction. The only reasonable uptick in sound will be adding BMC filters. If you're seriously contemplating the idea of adding the GT4RS style intake system for 10K + $$$$ Installation... then I dont want to hear you talkin' bout how expensive it will be to track the 4.0 Tracking the GTS will bring you more pleasure than any uptick in induction noise.. adding: take the car in for an aggressive street/track alignment, this is a game changer.

Enjoy the miles

I've watched Misha's and Gold Leaf's videos several times over the last few days. The induction noise is definitely very loud (Misha said it's louder than stock 4RS) but I am not 100% sure if the tone of the sound is 'good'. I would definitely need to sit in a car with this installed before pulling trig on a $11k part.

I will say - the auto-rev match downshifts on the gold leaf intake sound AMAZING.

I'll definitely track the car, probably 4-6 times a year (not like 15 times a year I used to do - was getting out of hand in terms of time commitment and spend on a hobby).

Will see how everything sounds with 'stage 1' sound upgrades - I'm committing to akra OAP + JCR non-silenced + BMC + CG valve controller. Will also add the Anima Motorsports wind deflectors to get more pure exhaust sound with less wind blast with the windows rolled down. Maybe also do more research around removing sound insulation in the car / engine bay.

How much louder was intake sound with the BMC filters for your car?

I dig the exhaust combo, I think you will like it.. I was very very close to ordering the JCR rear to pair with my AKRA OAPs. OAP’s make the 4.0’s sound like they should have from factory. OAP’s paired with an X-Pipe rear makes the 4.0 sound more like a true GT.
I’d say the BMC added ~ 10-15% more pronounced “swooooshhh” to stock. It’s tough for me to be a good judge on this as I had AKRA OAPs on the car within 12 hours of taking delivery. I was more focused on the AKRA’s than I was induction.

The carpet panel right behind the seats has no insulation over the sound symposer (circled in red in the photo below - not my photo) so cutting a hole there may not do much. I would be curious about looking into a custom-made carpet panel with LESS insulation to let more engine sound in the cabin.

Got that from this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/718-gts-...gts-4-0-a.html

The photo below is a screenshot from Jet Fuel Only’s video on the sound symposer. It shows the hole in the insulation in front of the symposer outlet.

May not help to add the kind of sound you are seeking. People were plugging that hole thinking that it was contributing to drone. Don't know if anybody did the opposite. I don't want to cut holes in the nice carpeting so not going to attempt that. If there was a finished look from an aftermarket manufacturer, that may interest me. The BMC filters seem to be your best bet but I am not so sure if it is not a placebo effect?

Just play induction sounds through Bluetooth and call it a day - adjust to the volume that suits your liking - Rock on Brotha
