'25 GTS 4.0 - take or pass?

For sure. These 4.0s will be keepers. And 2025 appears to be the end of the line.

I'll throw my hat in the ring to go for the 4.0, I'd rather pass on the base, and keep that 4.0 for as long as you can. As others said, it's the last of a generation, and an era for the smaller, and more fun Cayman. I already have a 2.0 turbo dd manual, and I much prefer the NA experience, and winding out the gears. Kudos if you got the 4.0 with a manual and had a base pdk. I'd argue they are both very different cars even with the same transmission, and the noises that come out of the 4.0 can still send some chills down my spine after 3 years of ownership (Thank you Jonny!)

OP, I truly believe that if you can swing getting the 4.0 and the base Boxster, I would do it. If you really don’t like the 4.0 it would not be difficult to unload it for a 992.
Let me share our experience. Our first Porsche was a 2017 base Boxster that my wife absolutely loved and was her daily driver. It was a fun car, easy to throw around with good bottom end. I got a chance to drive the 4.0 Boxster and could immediately feel that there was a big difference from the base 2.0T. Sound was definitely different but it still maintained really good bottom end torque and quickness plus it pulled like a freight train. I was convinced, the problem was convincing my wife, like I said she really loved her car. It took most of a year to convince her to take a test drive. Once she did she was mostly sold but not 100%. It was not until our SA told her that he had a Boxster 25 that the buyer had backed out of and was still changeable did she make the decision. She speced out a triple black B25 and the only things that I added to the order were clear taillights, color matching roll hoops and fire extinguisher.
As much as she loved her base Boxster she REALLY loves her B25. The 4.0 easily gets 30+ mpg on the road and with the PDK has all of the bottom end torque of the turbo motor. The engine has a nice smooth growl and the ‘ticking’ sound just disappears when you are driving it and having fun. I personally prefer Caymans but I do enjoy taking her car out for a top down drive especially early morning and late afternoon. I really think that if you have an opportunity to order a 4.0 GTS, to take advantage of it while you can because unfortunately this will be the last ride for the 4.0 NA engine before it is replaced by an electric motor. Best of luck with your decision.

On another thread it was intimated that this matter was resolved by Porsche via production improvement. Porsche has acknowledged the issue and even released a technical service bulletin to address complaints about this from the unhappiest of customers.

Check the "Engine ticking noise" thread. Hypothetically, it should be partially addressable with insulation around the fuel pump. Given the location of the fuel pump (near the top of the engine, behind the driver), I don't think it would cause significant thermal concerns. But I'm not qualified to say that with certainty, just a guess.

By the looks of it, the TSB did very little, if anything, to resolve the issue.
Here's the thread you posted with the TSB. https://rennlist.com/forums/718-gts-...l#post19454939

I cannot take credit for posting the TSB, as it had been posted by someone else first in that very thread. I re-posted it to clarify a discussion taking place well beyond the post containing the TSB.
Thank you for linking us to the thread.

To the OP: you will never get another chance to buy one of these old school cars ever gain. Get it while you can with a manual. It is a wonderful car and that 4 liter is a gem especially when paired with the Kline exhaust. Turbo cars are very common these days but the 4.0 liter is very special.

Agreed. My interior was actually Saddle Brown, which is more of a light Milk Chocolate color. I bought CPO, but it was a very nice spec. In retrospect, I should have kept it too. The Ocean Blue and Deep Sea Blue are really nice too, but they all tend to show dust quite a bit.

I ended up buying a white car with a red interior which was furthest from my mind LOL! I like it though. The color combination works well but still not sold on the gold accents. The car is so much fun and once I am behind the wheel, all else if forgotten. It is probably the best manual I have driven. Porsche doesn't seem that interested in the 718 platform anymore. Look at the new 911. It gets all the love but doesn't look like a 911 anymore at least in my book. I have never been less interested in a 911.

I really love CR and was waiting for an allocation to order one with the GTS interior package. My favorite combination. I also like dark green cars with brown interiors and the aventurine green with the expresso/cognac interior was another favorite. Sadly either no allocations or 15k ADM.
