Default Spyder values......is this a joke?

So just out of curiosity, I entered the info for my 2020 Spyder with 13800 miles into Edmunds appraisal calculator. My car is loaded with MSRP of $133k in 2020.

Comparable cars on Autotrader are being listed in the $120-140k range. Edmunds gave me a trade-in value of $68k and a dealer retail of $77k.

WTF ?

none of these sites accurately account for what the current market looks like. It does slightly but not to a point where you see it match. Most of the time it's an algorithm that determines average depreciation. It's like the same calculation dealerships use when calculating leases. If you were to lease your Spyder, you'd probably see something like a 55% value after 3 years. But if the value was closer to what the market was, the dealership would basically have to pay you money for you to lease the car from them.

Don't take it to a dealer, they will surely disappoint you!

Oh I am not selling, but was just curious about valuation. A dealer last fall already offered me a little over $100k anyway. I didn't bite then either, obviously.

most likely giving you a Boxter S trade in value
having said that all indications is that the car market has taken a significant leg down the past month and inventory at dealers is swelling up and thus dealers are less willing to pay up on trades
and despite what you read here on RL , Porsche is not immune to that
Porsche sport cars will take less hit than other models but still will take a hit , obviously the size of the hit depends on your entry point
but also don't measure a hit based on market peak as market peak was just a peak

For my 2022 Boxster 25 with an MSRP of 108k, Edmunds came up with 85k as trade in value. I have about 13k miles. Your valuation appears low. It is pretty irrelevant to me personally because I would not trade in my Boxster for anything else right now. I turn 63 in a few weeks and the Porsches that interest me are older ones. The new ones just don't appeal to me including the new 911.

Unless you are a certain YouTuber and that is part of your bit: to take a $3M+ vintage Lambo to Carmax so they can offer you $100k.

I have my 2021 Spyder listed for sale now, with a sticker of $120k, which currently has about 7600 miles, and I have had several Porsche dealers contact me with offers of $110-115k, cash and they will come and pick it up. It has a lot of extras and they all told me I could keep all of the exhaust mods and DSC controller if I returned it to stock. No way would I let it go for that but that should give you a good idea of the value.

Seems like a deal to me. When you look at colours that were available for all model years, yellow was the least popular uptake for the Spyder, and second least for the GT4. Yellow cars are generally difficult to sell in the used car market.

Any proof/references for this assertion? This seems to be a misconception stemming from the fact that dealers are normally interested in moving cars quickly, and yellow may not move as quickly. But other studies showed that yellow cars may actually have better resale value (but it may take longer to find the customer). In my own Porsche collecting history, once a series (356, longhood 911, 993) becomes "collectible" the unusual, and bright colors are valued at a premium over the common colors. And they are advantageous on the concours lawn as they 'pop'. In the near term, unusual and bright colors might not be rewarded for a daily. Just wait.

I love Yellow on a sports car, and it seems others do as well:

Default Color me beautiful

I was reading another thread dissing shark blue as a choice that was too bold. Funny, because the 3 SB Spyders I called on shortly after they were listed were already sold for asking price.

Here's an example of yellow and blue Porsche Parade Concours winners. These colors were an asset and mentioned by the judges, "I love this color".

It’s like relying on Zillow to value your home. Sometimes they’re right, often they’re not.
