I did this myself on my non-RS Spyder. Unless you have TINY hands or extremely comfortable working in a 718 engine bay, don’t do it. I have large hands but they’re thin. My hands were destroyed for 2 weeks after. So much rubbing against the engine covers textured like sandpaper. With gloves on I couldn’t squeeze my fingers in far enough.

My local Indy charged me $300 to do the install on my 992. Worth every penny.

Now that I have a GT4RS I’ll ask him to do the job on that car also.

I wear a medium-large golf glove and I installed the controller myself in my Cayman GTS. It was ok, no cuts and bruises

Likewise, maybe one small cut but it wasn’t as brutal as the other posted makes it out to be lol.

It probably would have been fine if I hadn’t forgotten to reconnect a harness and needed to check every connection. So basically doing it twice back to back. And the second time with less patience.

fwiw my American glove size is between L and XL

I do need to swap the controller from my Spyder to my 4RS…. Maybe you’ve inspired me to do it myself with better gloves this time round.

I recently did this on a 718 Spyder (non RS) and used a longer handle pick set to release the gray tab and pull it lose and these long handle pliers from harbor freight to connect both pieces.

Never moved any vacuum lines or tried to get my hands in there. Took some finessing and patience but was easily doable. Used both pliers.

Did you confirm with Cargraphic that the valve controller for the RS is the same? If so I'm probably doing that as well.

I haven’t reached out to them directly, no. Description on their website indicates it’s a single product compatible with various 718.

OP,

Do you already have your car, and have determined that it needs more sound / volume? Or just an assumption based on other cars?

With Pavarotti singing full volume in your ear, do you want / need a lesser backup singer adding in?

I’m curious whether you have your car and find it wanting, or this is based on experience with (non music box) intake cars.

Yes the car is here, Spyder RS is a real symphony but that damn valve close even sooner than my old 992 GT3, i sold my GT3 without removing the cargraphic,
so i ordered another one to enjoy the SRS symphony either at low rpms (1k to 4k)

You can disconnect the valves hoses and plug them (open locked) or try the collar mod. I will try the collar mod first only to almost delete the sound change and try to avoid the booming sound at low rpms

But the intake noise is independent of the valves. I guess you're going for exhaust noise down low, pre intake volume rising.
