Same deal for me, except I'm 100 miles East of DFW now. It's a little better out here only because some of the country roads around here have some curves. I lived in Carrollton for 32 years, and always enjoyed track days or road trips to the Hill Country for fun roads.

Default I think you americans would be shocked by the roads we have to play on!

My “secret” route, the 812 from the E6 to the coast via Misvær, through mountainous landscape, devoid of police and much traffic.

Playtime! You just have to watch out for sheep and reindeer

Reached the sea, just another hour to get home
I don’t know why anyone in pancake flat Florida or the sorts with straight boring roads and highways would buy a GT4RS? I can literally go out of my driveway and instantaneously be hammering the car on epic single lane twisting roads reminiscent of Nürburgring toll road. These cars aren’t made for multi lane roads and motorways.

I feel for you. Grew up in Bolingbrook and visited Galena a few times.

Southern CA is perfection. Twisty roads and mountains within minutes.

I know this sounds crazy, but shipping your car someday, or doing a massive road trip is worth it. These cars belong more on mountains than tracks in my opinion. You need to fully enjoy on proper curvy roads.

Eleven Best Motorcycle Rides in the Smoky Mountains | Route Maps | Guides | Information (mysmokymountainguide.com)
This guide was very helpful when I moved to east Tennessee 3 years ago. There is SO much more here than the Dragon...

Western MA on the edge of the Berkshires. I can literally get onto some decent twisties about 1/4 mile away, but there are some homes around. Within a short distance, however, western MA has some spectacular driving roads. Route 20 west, Route 8 and 8A, Route 2, Route 9, and the best is Route 112 that traverses almost the entire state South to North and into southern VT. From there, find the back way in to Stratton Mountain ski area on Mountain Road. It is a pure roller coaster ride !!

THANKS FOR POSTING! Great link. Any suggestions for my 2 day trip? I do want to visit TotD just because it's famous. I get it, that it's a slow drive, which is fine. But these roads you posted look great.

There is a small stretch of road about 10 minutes from my house in North Raleigh, NC by Falls Lake that is freshly paved, has no development on it, and is just high-speed hairpins. A lot of motorcycle guys use it for suspension adjustments but occasionally there is a cop there. There were a lot more of those types of roads around me but the area is getting so developed that they are cutting down the trees and putting up subdivisions--sigh. Plenty of good roads in Western NC though but sometimes it is nice to go out for an early morning drive/ride.

Try to do the Dragon on a weekday, early morning. Less traffic. Also, some days cops are all over, others not so much. Just beware.
My faves from the linked list are Cherohala and Foothills.

Great question, I too was looking in to a two day trip. I’m in the Chatt area, so I’m thinking about Cherohala to Robbinsville. Overnight stay, and then TOTD the following morning.

Getting there Sunday night. Planning to drive Monday and Tuesday. Staying in Fontana, so close by tail. We can hit tail early as suggested. I also think early week days should be lighter traffic than later in the week.

Thanks for the tips.

If you're stopping by TOTD, there's some other roads nearby that might be interesting too... look at the TrueView channel on YouTube. Also you can run the tail in circuits, there's good turnaround points at each end by the shop, and in the valley on the other side. Some of the regulars I believe might do a couple of runs in both directions before calling it a day.

I don't have much elevation changes here but for local roads there's enough country roads and Nomoco Road that runs around a state park that's has nice curves.

TOTD update: The entire 11 mile stretch is being re-paved. Supposedly done "by July".

I thought that road was just repaved last month.
