Makes total sense actually - the manual can't handle all that much power so pairing it with the base Turbo and RWD gives the Turbo a proper place in the model lineup. Currently, the base Turbo is a hard sell since people with Turbo money would rather just get the Turbo S. It's not be a total product line move, just the base Turbo... the Turbo S will remain AWD+PDK only.

I realized I am coming at this subject cold, whereas this is all saucered and blown on the 911 side of the forum house. I should know better than to comment in a 911 thread. lol

The perspective described does make sense. But isn’t the current gts a rwd manual turbo? Or am I mixing up my seemingly endless 911 model lines?

Abridged version of my thoughts: the new hybrids will be rocket ships!

As a former owner of a 991.2 C4S, these new ones are full of modern technology and sure sound impressive. Prices have jumped as well. Even the current S model, nicely-equipped is 150-160k. Waning interest. I used to look forward to new 911s and reading about them. I could barely get through the C&D article.

Looked at the configurator. Only black or white have no charge. GR which always was a standard color is 1500. Very limited availability of the manual option.

Pretty satisfied with my manual Boxster with the 4 liter so I have to take care of it. Irreplaceable to me.

Overall, for me, the newer Porsches are having less appeal than their predecessors, both due to design and value. Cars that I find more appealing than their predecessors include the Maserati Gran Turismo, Aston Marin Vantage, Mercedes AMG GT. In any case, I won't be giving up my Spyder for anything else any time soon.

The 3.0 Turbo GTS had seemed like a relatively poor value, having the same motor as the base carerra for the 991.2 and 992.1

The 20% displacement bump and the e turbo/hybrid system at least make the price justifiable.

Came here to say that the new single turbo, single intercooler would probably be a challenge for tuners to extract more power without running into heat limits, but then I read about the Lambda 1 "strategy", which seems to really choke the top-end. Now it looks like there is probably a ton of free power to be uncorked by undoing that restriction. 3.6L x 26 psi boost yielding only 473 HP didn't feel right. This will be fun to watch.

Also, my nomination for the dumbest thing in the C&D article: "And with mufflers, bigger is always better."

the 992.2 makes me sad, the end of non GT Porsche cars that evoke emotion, they are becoming more like appliances, and they even sound like them, listen to the introduction video of the 992.2 GTS, the sound evoked absolutely no emotion in me

The 992 forum, right now, reminds me of when I joined this forum to read up on the turbo 718. Wholly Hell, I left after 2 days of reading and returned when the 4.0L came out 😂

It’s going to be worse in here when the 718 EV is released!

People shouldn't be sleeping if they still want an ICE 718 - I see constant assumptions the current 718 will continue past the EV but aside from statements that are now like 2 years old there's nothing to indicate any ICE 718s beyond '24 at this point. Likely will be my only P-car unless I buy used down the road... manual + NA flat 6 is why I bought it in the first place.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Hand wringing over tech advances. And yet people always want faster (and affordable). If only there had been forums when the horse to car switch was made.

No Porsche was ever cheap to maintain in terms of repair costs. That said, the incredible complexity of the system has me questioning long term reliability and the specter of radically costly repairs. Ownership without an extended warranty seems perilous.

Glad I’m waiting for my Cayman GTS to arrive in August.
