Where Did The 20 HP Go?
Waiting on a demand order for a 25 Cayman GTS after having gotten 911’s out of my system. Had a new 991 and then a new 992.1. Was going to order a 992.2. GTS and realized that my dissatisfaction with them was that they had gotten too big and too much tech. The 992.1 in particular was beginning to feel more like a powerful touring car rather than a more traditional sports car.
Just wondering what accounts for the loss of 20 hp in the GTS as opposed to the GT4?

The 20hp went wherever a few lines of code took them . . .

The GTS does not open the throttle valve all they way after 6k RPM in order to make sure it is less than the GT4. Easily solved with any aftermarket flash tune.

The 20hp difference is almost indiscernible in the real world, so not sure it’s worth worrying about or solving with a tune.

“Output is 394 hp at 7000 rpm and 309 lb-ft of torque from 5000 to 6500 rpm, with a redline set at 7800. By using a slightly different software tune, the 718 GT4 and Spyder rev all the way to 8000 rpm and offer 414 hp; but in almost all scenarios, I think you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference. Plus, 394 hp is more than plenty in a car this size.”

Wrong. You are comparing stock GTS HP to stock GT4/Spyder HP, but the tune takes all versions up to 440. So 394 to 440 = 46hp. You'll fee that. I certainly did.

I was rippin with a couple 718 GTS on track, and a a 981 GT4 (less HP), and I can tell you the only thing that separates the three is the driver behind the wheel.
Put a proper exhaust system like Kline on the GTS and a good chunk of that HP is gained back.
Absolutely no need to tune this platform unless you go full header back, and even then, I probably wouldnt (at least I say that or now).

Well given that GTS is lighter and less aero drag, they had to detune it else it would be faster in a straight line than a GT4

OP never asked anyone's opinion on whether or not he should get a tune.
Yes, I am hostile. Reading comprehension levels are at an all-time low and going lower by the second. It is almost as bad as people's ability to detect sarcasm.
