Default Spyder - taking off engine cover

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone here took off their engine cover for an air filter replacement or a VIN verification.
I just spent the entire morning trying to SMOG my car and every single place said that they won't do it unless I take off the engine cover myself.

I found this video which shows how to do it for a Boxster, would appreciate if someone could confirm it is the same for the Spyder

Thank you

Strange, the emissions sticker on the side of the rear hatch wasn't sufficient?

What do "they" expect to find back there?

I think they need to confirm the VIN of the car

Do you think it is safe to drive like that for a few miles? Dont want to take it apart in the SMOG\DMV parking lot

Seems like this came up couple years back on a CA out of state purchase.

IIRC, the sticker they’re looking for was on the back edge of the hatch…right side I think. That is the emissions plaque.

I called 10 different places, all heard "718 convertible" and were immediately "yeah we dont do those".
I just talked with a place that said no problems, will check them out in a few minutes

Think the recall was only for a limited range…

Couple threads in the past on finding emissions stickers

The VIN under the edge of the windshield is not sufficient?

There is a label in the center, but the engine compliance data label is on the hatch edge. That’s why in CA they start wanting to look at the engine..just a guess.

So 14 places said no (some on the phone some to my face). The 15th was like "yeah that sticker (the one on the hatch) is enough for me". Got everything done without taking apart anything

Reminds me of the tire shop that said you can't patch a run flat tire, that it's illegal. I hung up on the guy...
