4.0 vs 4.0 vs......5.0

This is a thread to discuss the issue of value. The only car I would consider to replace my 718 Spyder is a GT3 Touring. While absolute cost isn't an issue, value always is for me. So....is the overall experience one will get from a GT3 compared to a 718 GT car worth twice the cost? And for that matter, is the overall experience of owning a 718 GT car worth twice the cost of a nicely spec'd Mustang 5.0?
And when I speak of ownership experience, I am not just talking about the fastest track times. To me, unless one is racing for money or is a contender to be Formula One world champion, track times mean nothing. It is simply about enjoyment, and the subjective experience including performance, reliability, design, build quality......everything.
Discuss.

I had a manual 991.2 GT3. I enjoy my Spyder more. The GT3 was an absolute weapon at the track and I enjoyed every second of it there but by the end of the 2nd year I owned it I barely took it out of the garage except for track days. This past year, I've really enjoyed taking the Spyder out for things like visiting people and just going out to dinner with my wife on a nice summer day. It still holds it's own at the track. More than holds it's own, really. I'm astounded at how close I am to my GT3 times in just a few events. So on the whole, for me, it's hands-down better. Your opinions may obviously differ.

Like the OP the GT3 Touring (991.2) is the only car I’d trade my spyder for as well. In addition to the word value, utility comes to mind for us as well. With the 911 we would, in theory, be able to take the dog with us on short vacation trips, day trips etc. Though my wife has said “would you really do it”, and TBH I’m not sure because of the potential damage of him just being a dog. In terms of value that one is a little easier for me, it just isn’t there. I think the 991.2 GT3 Touring is the best looking modern 911, beautiful looks, a nice cockpit (similar to ours), the motorsport engine and all the history and pedigree of a 911. BUT, that isn’t worth double my spyder, not even close (to me). The spyder looks are more compelling, great shifter, great engine (best I’ve ever had!), feels small and nimble and can rip around a track to a level I’ll likely never achieve.
For the cost of the upgrade, I would probably be better off keeping the spyder and upgrading the dog-mobile to a Macan GTS or something like that. And I’d still have money left over. GT Spyder is a very tough recipe to beat IMO.

Hard pass.

Of course people here are gonna say it's worth it, and people on the mustang forums will say its not.
Think you gotta drive both and make that decision yourself, as you even said it's about the intangibles (i.e. feel) for you. Objectively, we all know the answer clearly is it's not worth it. The 5.0 mustang is incredible performance for the money.
That being said, I wouldn't trade my Spyder for the mustang + cash
. But, I'd be more inclined to have a mustang as a track car....would MUCH rather have a meeting with mr. barrier in the stang.

A Mustang 5.0 isn't half the money. You need to calculate depreciation, how much money you lose on interest for the difference ($60k at lets say 5.3%?), sales tax depending on where you live, insurance, maintenance, etc.
I compared my Spyder to a new 2024 MX-5, and for a 4-6 years ownership, the Spyder is only about $4k a year more expensive. I predicted depreciation by analyzing the market of the 981 GT4\Spyder and recent BAT listings.

same… just not a fan of those cars despite the bang for a buck, they just look bloated and tacky to me…… now if I could add a GT3 touring to my spyder I’d be happy, I think!, but that’s not close to reality as other priorities govern

For the price of a GT3, you could get both the Spyder and the Mustang GT and still have money left over...
Honestly I think I would enjoy that combo. I feel that by always having the variety between the two different driving experiences of a Spyder and a Mustang available, I would never get tired of one or the other. Plus then I'd have the last mid engine, manual convertible sports car + the last manual muscle car...

Went from a 991.2 GT3 to a GT4. Then to a 23 GT3T. And now have a GT4 RS with Weissach due in May. I could have lived with either of those cars.
