Bi-Xennon vs LED PDLS lights
Folks
Looking at a 23 used CGTS which does not have LED PDLS but has the standard black bi-xenon pdls lights , i would have optioned Led PDLS but this car does not have it , is that a big difference?
Is the bi-xenon lights white and i know its not as bright as LED's but are they close enough?
Please share your experiences with the bi-xenon lights
Thanks in advance

Xenon on the 718 is in par with a Trabant. You can change the ballasts to 35w and the bulb to LED with some improvement according to different users. Regardless, probably low in what's actually important on these cars.

Xenons are fine. Still too modern. Car needs halogen bulb headlights to reflect the old tech, classic car vibe. Mine has LEDs, Standard on the Boxster 25 but I found out later after I had already bought the car. They look OK. Not as nice as the xenons.

I guess this comes under the heading of beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I had Xenon’s on our 2017 Boxster and now have the LED’s on our Boxster 25. The LED’s are brighter and the four dot driving lights are larger and brighter too. I love the more modern look of the current Porsche trend of four dot running lights. “Reflect the old tech, classic car vibe” ?? Not sure what you mean, How old tech do you want to go? A candle and reflector ?

PDLS Bi-Xenons come with nipples. Personally I prefer the Bi Xenon as they have the smaller 4 point DRLs.
LEDs are a crisper white that the Bi Xenon but the latter give a more 'daylight' perspective when driving. However, the lower wattage Bi-Xenons don't have the nipples and are pretty pants.

I prefer the look of the black housing Xenon Headlight as well as the DRL's (the 4 small LED's) that come with the Xenon... but the light output is much better on the LED PDLS...
Deal breaker on an otherwise nice car? NOT AT ALL.
You can upgrade to LED bulbs if you'd like.

Depends on which xenons you have. 25W vs 35W.
One thing I hadn't considered when ordering is apparently if the LEDs fail, you need to replace the whole headlight assembly, whereas you can replace the bulb with the xenons. Not confirmed, just read that on here somewhere.

While I rarely drive mine at night, I was pleasantly surprised how well the standard HID PDLS work on the dark winding country roads where I live. My 2016 E400 and 2021 F150 both have LED's and aren't as good in the same conditions.

To the OP, the comments above accurately communicate that it should be 'no big deal' if the car is right. I'm 52-years old and work in the lighting industry, my 4 comments:
- The CGTS in 2023 has the 35W version (so, it's the 'best of' Xenon)
- Yes, the LEDs ARE brighter / whiter and better for humans to see with at night.
- I didn't know there was an LED 'bulb' option available to 'upgrade' a Xenon car. That would be worth investigating if you are over 45 and will be doing lots of night driving.
- I also liked the 'nostalgia' element of the Xenon. Both the 4-dot DRL structure AND the slight bit of warm-up time when you switch on the Xenons and they come up to full brightness.

Like my NB Miata. Or a Boxster 25 years older than mine

OK, yeah that doesn’t work for me. I’m a few years ahead of you. I like glass in my rear window, prefer CD’s to cassettes, South Florida is mandatory A/C during the summer and honestly I don’t buy a car that doesn’t have Car Play. As I get older I like more creature comforts !!

Yeah, this is obviously a personal preference thing but I vastly prefer the round housings you get with the Xenons to the spider eye look you get with the LEDs.
I have the Xenons and the light output is perfectly fine.
