Downpour - Impressions
Heading back from the airport I was caught in a massive downpour in the Spyder...
I thought it handled perfectly well for a sports car - in fact I was passing most other vehicles. I didn't notice any hydroplaning or dangerous lack of traction... though I was expecting this from all the internet's blab about how dangerous cup 2 tires are in the rain
My only complaint is that the windshield wipers chattered across the glass. My s2000 did this too - especially in hot weather downpours. I think it may be in part the fact that the wipers are so short?? Do any of you notice this? My other vehicles with longer blades do not do this.
Either way - I felt perfectly cozy and safe and planted in the car through the storm.

We used to get rain here LOL….. but like DYIM I use PS4S as well for a better overall road tire. There is a local guy who totalled his spyder hydroplaning after a autocross day (dunlops), said he was going the speed limit and had no chance, wound up upside down and had to be extracted (he was fine) his wife was a couple cars behind riding with a friend. I did not like the feel of the Cup2’s in the rain, even before I was told that story. YMMV.
Wiper chatter has more to do with the windshield than the wiper I think. Do you have a coating on it or anything?

I've found Porsche OEM wipers to work extremely well in very heavy rain with no chatter. I did notice when perusing the owners manual that it says not to clean the blades because they have a coating on, which surprised me.

I have chatter on mine however that's because my windshield is PPFd. I drove my car home from LA in the rain and i thought the car was fine. Granted i also didn't drive too fast and it was mostly straight so maybe that helped a lot.

I did an extensive drive in my Spyder w Cup2s in pretty heavy rain, at the NER PCA club ramble this Spring near Cooperstown NY. I was expecting some traction issues, mostly based on what I have read here, but progressively pushed harder and harder as I gained confidence throughout the day.
This was on all types of roadways - from twisty mountain back roads to relatively flat interstates - following several hours of rain that had already cleared any oil residues from the road surfaces. The tires had about 4k miles on them and the car was solid and planted.
I was following a 992.1 GT3 Touring and a 991.2 GT3RS, and at times they also pushed pretty hard (within reason on the back roads around upstate NY) with no real apparent issues.
I dd an Audi SQ8 and a Macan S. Of course the Spyder does not compare to either of those in the wet. Although I might hesitate from an OCD perspective due to all the road grime (I washed the car three times after returning home), I would not hesitate to drive the Spyder in the rain again from a traction perspective.

I run Cups on my daily, and I've had have no issues in monsoon rainstorms. Im usually on the TurnPike when I get caught in rain, I stick to the middle lane, and drive the speed limits.
Only one more week left for this guy driving his P-car in the rain, unless unplanned - taking delivery of a new daily next week.
PS. anyone in the Tri-State area (PA) who wants a brand new set of PS4S can make me an offer - pickup only.
