Finally snagged a 4.0…23 Spyder
After more than 3 years of trying to talk my way into an allocation for a GT4 or a Spyder without success, including spending quite some time on a wait list, I stumbled into an opportunity to jump on an unclaimed vehicle. In a lot of ways it’s not something I would have built for myself, but so far it’s been an enjoyable experience to put the first ~200 miles on the car.
I’d been on the hunt for a vehicle with 6MT, LWBs, and ideally green, blue, or white with a chalk or black interior. I was willing to forego most of the niceties on the option list in exchange for a focused driver’s vehicle, and planned to keep my 2021 M3 Comp as a daily driver. I stumbled across a car that was PDK, black (a color I said I’d never buy again) and pretty well equipped with a variety of luxury features (Burmeister). The dealer also was pretty insistent they would need a trade and talked me into turning over the keys to my M3.
A few of my initial thoughts and impressions:
Black paint really tones down the look of the car - blending all the vents and other matte plastic parts into the paint changes the look of the car drastically
The PDK offers a super unique driving experience - it doesn’t offer the closeness I sought with a manual, but it is an incredibly impressive transmission
The exhaust has generated dozens of hours of me reading threads on here trying to figure out the right way to get a little bit “more” volume and perhaps some help with the tone
The manual top on the Spyder is an easy process and actually somewhat enjoyable to work through…and a convertible in a sunny locale is amazing
Having read through the exhaust threads…I think I am leaning towards F6 OAPs and a Cargraphic Valve controllers, or towards the Kline OAP/Backbox.
I am still waffling on the PPF approach as I consider going with a stealth finish vs the gloss look.
