No they can't in writing and then I would report the dealer to porsche ,

Sure they can offer but cant force me to trade in my car, thats utter nonsense

If you want the car they can... there is no "force" here (nor did I even mis-state such), the dealer offers you a vehicle with certain T&C's - you either take them or leave them... the "goods" (the car) is their's to sell how they like it, pretty much as an individual owner may.

while PCNA may frown upon such practices ... I doubt that their franchise agreement prohibits such!

YMMV

With GT4 coming to the end, the dealer unfortunately has leverage.

It is a numbers game at the end of the day. ADM + potential trade-in loss is what you should be looking at. Don’t forget they can also upsell you with maintenance package, extended warranty….etc, etc. Add all those together.

If you want to spec your own car, prepare to bend over.

Other option is to buy a used GT4, and sell your car privately. But then you have to deal with tire kickers.

The wonderful team at Porsche North Houston offered 120k for my 2200 mile 2023 GT4 as a trade toward a 2023 GT3 pool car.

Oh one more thing...120k minus 35k on the trade...that was very thoughtful of them.

Yeah...the dealer definitely has the leverage for the situation and i'm sure there are plenty of others ready to ****** my build. I'm overall dealing with a good problem to have and trying to reduce the pain, but sounds like I'm likely at their mercy and hopefully I don't get as reamed as some of you.

It may be a PM type thing, but curious which dealers these were. I'm also in the Bay. I had a different local dealer offer "$0 ADM", except I had to get pretty much every extended/extra warranty/service they offer and a 911 Sport Classic watch for $15k (MSRP). That all added up to be about $40k-ish+. No knock for those with Porsche watches, but it's not within my budget/taste for 5 figure watches. That's probably a whole new thread.

Force? They’re giving you deal terms. You can just say no. “Heh, heh,…then you don’ get no Coke…’

You can't report anything, especially not when OP agreed to all of then he got the allocation

I understand didnt actually mean "force", i meant they cant put a trade in condition for selling a new car. Whatever be it the deal sounds crazy and i will walk away if they dont pay a fair deal for my car or put these ridiculous conditions, all depends how desperate you are for the car

Obviously if OP is stupid to accept such a deal there is no question of reporting anything

No, no dealer can force you to trade it, but allocation cars, that have a Porsche trade, are prioritized.

Come on. At this point it's not about "being stupid"; they're not making them anymore. It's not like he can just walk down the street to the next dealer and get a better deal.

The dealer holds all the cards. If you want a new GT4 at this stage, you play by their rules. Simple as that.

- Marin (me)
- Stevens Creek (the other guy with the $0 991 trade in)

yes they can! in the same way they can ask/apply an Additional Dealer Markup over and above the MSRP ... there is (apparently) nothing legally to prevent them from doing so.

The prospective purchaser can either agree, negotiate, or walk away ... its the buyers choice, as it is the seller's to set the T&C's as they like (within the constraints of the legal framework they are operating a business in)

one last observation, dealers are asking for trade-ins because:

- due to the supply chain issues, cars are in short supply, taking a trade-in gives them another car to sell at a profit in addition to the car sold
- this is also why asking for Euro Delivery is also attractive ...
- they can "hide" ADM in the trade in vs. its market valuation, so they look "good" by being an MSRP dealership
- the ADM (difference between market and actual value) does not appear on the bottom line (as a real ADM does) and is therefore not taxable (to the purchaser)
- ...
