serviceability and longevity of 6MT vs. PDK

Of course there is the question of replacing an engine with a miss guided shift with the 6 speed. 😈
I’ve owned both a 6 speed and a PDK GT4 along with 6 speed and PDK GT3s. Drove all of them hard with no issues.

I know of at least 3 987.2 PDK local HPDE cars that have gone through multiple transmissions. I know of 2 981 PDK cars that have had failures. The problem is PDK repairs are not commonly available. I have heard of a European company that will rebuild them but you have to ship them for repair. Since I track a fair amount the PDK was not a consideration especially out of warranty. Besides being a Boomer I like my 6mt.

I have a PDK with about 20k on it and several track days. I had it flushed last month and found out the pan has to be replaced when you flush the fluid. They do sell a metal pan, that does not have to be replaced every time you flush transmission. It's cheaper then the factory unit also, so that's what I did. Suspension has been rock solid, and hope to keep it that way. Will be getting the extended warranty from Fidelity as an insurance policy.

As stated by others the problem with PDKs is availability of repairs. Atlanta Speedwerks is the latest shop to enter the PDK repair business. There is a PCA sponsored segment.
The pan and filter do NOT have to be replaced to change the PDK fluid. Others who track have indicated the filter is rather coarse and they replace it ever other time.

I don't guess you have to, but I'm not a big fan of changing fluid and not changing the filter. Plus with the updated pan, you only have to change the filter and not the pan.

Please point me to the shop where you can replace the clutch on a GT4 for $700 all in. Probably closer to $7,000 with parts and labor from a dealer. I’d wager you’d not get any Indy shop to do it for less than $4k.

I think with PDKs, time is on our side. As cars age, and presumably issues increase, am manufacturers / Indy shops will step in to fix PDK trannys. PCA had a great video on this:
My concern with my PDK is overheating it at the track…

^ possibly. It's not something that would keep me up at night, but indies repairing them depend on how willing Porsche will be with selling internal parts.
The nissan route with CVT transmissions that are prone to failure is the part you need is one new sealed transmission at $5g a pop.

OMG, what a cluster F that was with Nissan. We took a trip to Oregon a few years ago and needed to rent a 4WD since it was the snow season. Got a 4WD Pathfinder with like 4K miles on it. What a piece of sh*t!!! Every time I tried to pass on the 2 lane highways, the damn tranny would slip. CVT's belong on snowmobile clutches , not passenger cars.

DId your rental ever come close to redline when you tried to pass? I remember getting stuck with a POS altima or something and the closest it would get to redline was like 2500rpm below it and did not feel like it was anywhere near the ideal powerband for WOT.

Yeah, when trying to pass, I would floor it and in the upper range is where it would slip. I would be ultra pissed if I was the owner of it. I actually really liked Nissan before that experience. I would never touch anything with a CVT tranny again.

Company gave me a Pathfinder with a CVT as a company car. I found myself looking for walls I could hit a full speed. Worst car I've ever had to drive, and I can place all my angst on the CVT.
