My Spyder is a keeper for the foreseeable future because there is nothing currently as a play car that I want to own more. I am thinking about a Z06 convertible, but Corvettes are too big for my tastes. I have warmed to EV quite a bit. The simplicity and lack of things that can go wrong are quite appealing. As soon as the charging infrastructure issues become less significant, I have no issue in making a full scale jump. One can't argue about the superior power delivery or speed capabilities. I just bought a 2022 Audi RS5 as my new daily driver to replace my 2018 Macan GTS. Love the car. Perfect daily driver. But also possibly my last ICE daily driver. I see a Taycan or Audi RS e-tron GT in my future depending on how the battery tech and charging infrastructure evolve.

I am on the list for a Z06 and would love to own another Macan.

My GT4 is definitely a keeper. I will be on the hunt for a 991 GT3 eventually too.

“Keeping it for life”…riiiight…

If I had a nickel for every Porsche owner (including myself) who said this, and then sold the car on a couple of years later, I’d have a ****load of nickels.

Agreed - I bet we get one more round of ICE GT4 / Spyder, even if the Cayman and Boxster go full electric.

This is why you have two of some organs….

It is the million dollar question.

With 2024 being the final year of ICE caymans/boxsters, will they command a premium? Will they hold value along side of the 2025 EV caymans/boxsters?

Wondering the same thing with the GT4RS clubsport race cars for the long term....

Cleaning lady claims that a 911 clubsport will replace the GT4RS clubsport for 2025 so dont count on an extended run of ICE cayman/boxster models for road or track.

Random thoughts on EV changeover:

1. Porsche planned 2025 EV launch some time ago before major disruptions due to Covid and the war. We don't know if they can stick to that timeline.

2. Porsche announced 2025 EV but never said 2024 to be the end of ICE 718. Correct me if I am wrong?

3. Can we expect the adoption of EV Boxster/Cayman to match the current sale of ICE versions at the get-go? If not, what to do with leftover capacity?

4. I know that solid state battery may be 3-4 years away from automotive application from economic and availability standpoints. I sure as hell won't buy any lithium battery cars in 2025, let alone a premium lithium battery sports car. Resale value of such cars will drop faster than their lithium battery thrown off a plane.

5. If Porsche were to launch lithium battery Boxster/Cayman in 2025 and then solid state ones just couple years later, how pissed off would the early adopters be? Maybe they keep lithium for base and S models and use solid state for GTS and GT? Either way, I ain't touching early EV model years, esp. if they are of lithium type.

I think my GT4 will be a keeper. I've had over 100 sports cars so I pretty much know what I want. After sampling a lot of stuff I devoted 2 slots in my life for keeper cars: a car from the 90s and a porsche. I picked a RX7 as my old car since I think that's one of the best cars from the 90s, and I think a last of the ICE/manual/NA/GT fits nicely into that Porsche slot. I'd consider swapping the RX7 slot for a 964, but I really don't have a clue what I'd put in the GT4 slot for a keeper.

There is always the possibility that some unknown variable may make EV redundant with new technologies. Yes, they are the "coming technology" now but in 10 years they may be also rans, a "fad' that was the thing until some newer and more efficient technology that we do not know about arrives on the scene.
There is a lot of political capital, environmental wish lists, anti-socially acceptable stigma etc. involved in the wishful and willful extinction of ICE vehicles. ICE has been successful for over 100 years as there is nothing as energy dense as gasoline, and they have also gotten cleaner and more fuel efficient. My GTS gets almost the same MPG that my VW Bug got in the 70s! AND I drive it quite differently, indeed. I find it interesting that Porsche which seems to be all in on ICE has built a pilot plant in Chile to make an alternative fuel that can be used in ICE. Some technologies that seem to be so right get obliterated within a short lifespan by new or more efficient technologies. I am not an anti-EV driver in principle, but I am open to the idea that they may not be the elixir that so many wish for them to be. Will the 3rd world countries that are rich in the materials need to build EVs be amenable to first world techno manufacturers setting up shop to mine their resources or worse yet use their country as a dump for the unusable EV power packs?
We do not know what we do not know, except I do know that I will try to keep my GTS cars as long as possible as I think they are pretty much the pinnacle of what Porsche thought was possible with an ICE. The GT4, Spyders, 4.0 GTS may be the last of their breed, and if they are so be it, but I am grateful we are able to enjoy them and keep enjoying them.

The big question would be, does the new 911 Clubsport follow the RSR format and would Porsche ever consider offering it's precious 911 nameplate with a mid-engine layout? Per Road and Track, "Going mid-engine was seen as a necessary step for the RSR to remain competitive..." "...With power and weight largely out of the question, aerodynamics and weight distribution become the two most important variables on a GT racer."

Without the ICE Boxster/Cayman line to compete with, could it open the door for a dramatic shift in thinking? Corvette took a chance with their heritage by switching to a mid-engine design, which allowed them to reach a whole new level of performance. Why couldn't Porsche do the same with the 911? Especially, if they know the end of the ICE 911 is inevitable anyway. If you're building an ICE car strictly for the best handling, weight distribution and aerodynamics, you go mid-engine.

This is just me speculating, but I think it's plausible.

Just to add. What engine do they have they could even use in a next generation mid engine platform?

The 4.0L is out after 2026, the current 911 base motor would be nearly impossible to fit and gets real tight to 911 platform.

718 sales are relatively small in Porsches world. Switching the 718 platform to full electric as a pure sports car (EV), makes some kind of sense to capture the market and provide experience and capability of injecting excitement into an EV sports car.

Porsche always does surprise us, but in todays climate and 718 sales figures; the 718 seems like the perfect candidate for electrification. With a lot of hurdles in engine/development for a EV and ICE compatible platform.

The GT4RS will be one of my keeper ICE cars, I've loved driving and tracking my 981 & 718 GT4s since 2015.

Cleaning lady said that 2025 all cayman and boxster will be EV only. 911 will remain ICE with possible hybrid.

The gt3 will go hybrid, just to stay competitive, imo.
