Default Spyder interior insulation

Looking at couple of used spyders and never owned a convertible with soft top

Is the interior noise loud compared to a GT4 and does it get cold/ warmer because of the soft top

Does it drive as stiff as a GT4, drove a GT4

thanks in advance

With the top down, it gets colder/warmer .

With the top up, you have AC/heat so unless you are in the arctic circle, it shouldn't make a difference. It is pretty loud inside but so is the GT4. The suspension is the same at the GT4.

When closing the roof, I couldn't tell any difference (in terms of noise). I was actually surprised at how little-to-none sound isolation the roof provides.

This response does not compute for me.

Top up - all intake noise and pure mechanical goodness.

Top down - totally different; wind/traffic and exhaust dominate. I don't really even register the intake/engine noise as compared to top up.

I probably didn't explain myself very well - I was looking to reduce the noise in the cabin (in terms that if you were to measure the noise, you would get a lower dba) to be able to speak with the person next to me easier, and closing the roof didn't help that much. Yes, the noise was different, but it was equally loud.

I think it's louder inside with the top on. Hard to hold a conversation. With the top off, My wife and I can have speak fine without yelling.

I get the whole "part of the experience" but I think I could use A LOT more soundproofing in the cabin. If anything to make the radio sound better.

Bah! GTS schmee-tee-ess.

The solution is simple: Do the Spyder, then call MusicarNW and upgrade the stereo

Yep, it's not a Lexus. The raucousness is part of the Spyder's charm, if that's not your thing, it's not your car.

I'm going to have my cake and it it too! Got my loud Spyder coming with all the beauty of the road noise, engine noise, etc... But, I got the Burm, so I can crank up the tunes when I want.

The Spyder around town under light acceleration is plenty quiet enough to hold a conversation in, or clearly hear the stereo.

At constant speed on the open highways (75mph+) it gets a bit louder inside, top up or down. But I can still have a conversation with a bit more voice volume.

Its exotic, intoxicating and worth it, but if listening to your stereo is important when driving, I’d buy a GTS.

I spec'd the Burmester in my Spyder. When I am in the mood, I can crank it with the top down and it sounds great. Top-up highway cruising will get a bit annoying but all the noise seems to be coming from the rear corners. My wife is really into sewing, and I am actually thinking of having her make some some fitted pillow inserts using some dense sound insulation and alcantara covering. I would just slip them in to the area of the blind spot if I knew I was taking a longer trip with the top up.

OP,

Small cockpit with a good HVAC system, so no won’t be hot/cold because of no roof insulation. This from freezing to 110 deg and almost 15000 miles.

Top up acoustics in the cockpit not ideal, down always better until stupid speeds. Depending on road conditions, wind, speed, etc…can get fatiguing with the top up.

I also have the Burmester system in the car. It works well, but my comment was regarding road noise at speed. If an 18 wheeler rolls by, you’re gonna hear him.

I think we have a different level of tolerance for noise, whether it is from wind, the engine, road, tires, etc., but I can say this much - the sounds with the top down on my Spyder are better than those with the roof open on the 991.2 Targa GTS I owned before it.
