Educate me on the 718 GTS

992 GTS Big Fast Heavy really nice cabin and very capable car. I would lean towards the 991.2GTS as it is ~200# lighter.
GT4 Lighter Nimble and rewards the driver ie you have to wring it by the neck to get it to perform on track but it is VERY REWARDING SMILE INDUCING FEELING.

That is one of the reasons I love the boxster so much. Since it was designed originally as a cab, it has excellent chassis rigidity; so much so, that you really aren't losing anything to the coupe. You get your preferred mode (coupe or cab) without compromise. Love it!

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm here to learn about these cars but most of the comments kinda tell me what I know. 718 GTS will be a more fun and tossable car over an 911, and the flat 6 will be the way to go for sure. The 911 on the other had has a nicer interior and rear end appeals to me more. I'm in the age bracket where owning a 911 isn't an issue (as someone mentioned), but I'm purely looking for a fun car, not too concerned about the image part. I'll certainly take a look at the links and videos posted here.
Someone above mentioned no new 718 orders after January? Someone mentioned no ICE 718 after MY24? Does this impact all variants?

The 992 is, on paper, objectively better. The numbers don't lie, I won't disagree. But if we wanted to buy the objectively better car on paper, we'd all buy a z06 and save some money (or something else). Especially if we cared about value. That car is just better than the 992 and 982. Full stop.
When you spend this kind of money on a car, it's not about what is better, it's about what you like.
I believe it's just the GT variants, you should be able to find a GTS 4.0 still. I'd try to drive both and see what is more fun to you. I actually prefer the 718's cabin (I think it will age phenomenally well), it suits the purpose of the car better. If i were getting a coupe i'd strongly consider a 992 just for the rear seats alone, but for a drop top, the 718 looks way better. Again, YMMV.
You should consider a 981 or 991.1 if exhaust sound matters to you too, stock these cars sound great with PSE and don't really need aftermarket.

No one knows exact timing, or how ICE will phase out and EV in. The latest rumor is full 718 EV as of 25. I assume that means MY 25. Whether a few ICE variants still trickle out (a la 991 speedster), is anyone's guess.

I loved both of my 997s, perfect sized car IMO. Had that wrap around you cabin feeling, rotated well, NA engine etc. The 991 and 992 just got too big and heavy for me. Great GT cars but IMO straying away from true sports cars. Mine were a base and a S. I was negotiating a 997 GT3 when my daughter arrived and I figured it would be a hard sell to my wife.
About a year ago I sold my Giulia Quadrifoglio. Amazing car that could really rip and carry two baby seats but it was missing a manual. I looked at 911s but they just didn't do that special something for me. I ended up with a CPO 981 Spyder which I loved but then I got an allocation to a 718 Spyder. I was briefly on the fence but decided I wanted to order a car with all of my specs and options so that is what I did. I would probably have been happy with a Cayman GTS too BUT I had never had an open top Porsche and as a motorcycle rider, I wanted to continue that feeling. Besides, the Spyder is just beautiful to look at.
Since I never owned a the 997 GT3, I can say that the 718 Spyder is the best car I ever owned. I do have a 535 (manual) and a XC90 for family/highway cruising but I'm sure the 992 is also a great GT type car. I guess I just wanted something closer to my motorcycle experience.

I drove my friends 992S manual, it was fun, but it was alarming just how big it felt....the width and vision out to the front bumper, and the feeling out the rear had me feeling like I was driving my old 970 panamera. The performance and handling was really nice, but it very much felt like a Grand Tourer and was comfortable for the street. Ironically, it felt just as low as my 718, and the interior room was really nice. I did miss the sound of my 718, but it certainly wouldn't be a bad car to drive around....I just wish I still had the engine right behind me, I could easily tell that it was a couple feet back, but I've been driving caymans for almost 7 years now. I'd definitely just stick with the 718 4.0 personally!

At 6’2”, I prefer the 911’s interior space but I’m quite content in my Cayman’s cockpit. Despite the lack of rear seating / space, I don’t have the claustrophobic feeling that I do in, say, a Miata.
At a PTX course this summer, we drove the 992 GTS for all but 1 of the 8 track sessions at Barber; a Turbo S was used for the 8th session. We drove 4.0L Cayman & Boxters for most of the paddock exercises on auto-x courses. I loved both the 992 and the Cayman GTS. I do wish we had a chance to take the Cayman on the track for a better comparison. But, despite the 992’s larger size and our temptation to label it a grand touring car, it was fantastic on the track and I preferred it over the big Turbo S.
The GTS 4.0 is a really special car. For years, people asked if Porsche would ever put a 911 engine in that mid-engine car and it (along with GT4’s, etc) represent the response.
When I was told that a low-mileage CGTS had just been traded in, the dealer also had a lightly-used base 992. I drove both but just wasn’t interested in that base 992 in comparison to the CGTS. And the salesman, whom I’ve known since 1987, was clearly hoping that I’d choose the Cayman. Again, it’s just a special package. I think the same applies to the 992 GTS and one can spec it out for less than $150k. Ultimately, availability was a big factor in my decision.
Long story short, I’d be happy with either.
