Default No offer

I'm not a repair specialist.
The trunk lid issue referenced earlier is a serious concern. But the exhaust orientation is (for me) even more significant.
That was a hard hit and there's too much out of place. Risk / return isn't even close.
Hard no.
Patience is your friend on this one.

Default Test drive

So I went and test drove today. Drove my 981BS so I Had immediate difference feel. And yes what a difference. As far as specs. my 981 is pretty loaded. Has more options then the spyder. More like a GTS. Outside of the car is awesome. The chalk is more grey in person but looked great with the red top. Inside the the dash was better than expected compared to what others were saying. Perhaps it is the classic red Spyder Alcatara option, whole interior is quality. I should have spent a little more time adjusting the 18 way seats. No heated or cool seats. I’m in Michigan but some say the alcatara doesn’t need it. The shifter is shorter too. This has a Fabspeed exhaust. I honestly think it kind of messed up my experience. So loud. I most be getting old. It did sound good but it’s is not like a the musical instrument the 981 is. Let’s just say there is no hesitation. This thing is quick. It felt quicker then my C7. I still swear Porsche is conservative on their numbers. Rev match or whatever button that is was cool too. Not sure it was the car or the exhaust that kept saying drive me faster. That’s why I thought the exhaust was too much. The suspension is much stiffer as expected per gt4. It wasn’t as rough as the M2 I drove though. The whole care just felt raw and on it’s toes compared to the 981 s. The long gears are more noticeable too. Mainly because the car has more power and feel like you need to use it. It wouldn’t stop me from buying it. Omg the steering feel is incredible unfortunately I was only on straight roads.

As far as repairs. The tip of the cover that tucks in the corner was noticeably bent a bit ( I could tuck back in place ) and the spyder logo by where I was hit has a scuff mark on it. So they have saved money on these items. I did not talk numbers because I told her I needed to wait until the new year. We did talk about salvage titles. Turns out that every car in the lot is a salvage so they have plenty of experience with them. It went like this, the cars are all inspected and are worth about 25% less then a clean title car based on market value. She seemed pretty up on what’s going on in the market so for me to offer 65k isn’t going to work. Left with I will think about it until new year and I would get car inspected if we agreed on a price.

There's a guy on one of the Facebook Spyder forums (Porsche Spyder Enthusiasts - Alex Shin) selling his 2021 Spyder in Chalk with the Spyder Classic Interior and Aurum wheels for $119K. Forget about a salvage vehicle at anywhere near even $75K.

Personally, I wouldn’t buy a salvage car at any price; certainly not at that price.
This. Also, being an insurance agent, I can tell you insurance companies DO NOT like salvage vehicles. Insurance companies either decline them or surcharge them. My advice to my clients is to stay away overall. Personally, I can never trust the safety of the vehicle.

Does insurance write policies for cars with salvage or rebuilt titles?

See my post right above yours. It varies by company - They will either decline it fully, decline full coverage (liability only), or surcharge the premium on that vehicle. At the end of the day, salvage cars are not worth it IMO.

Default Insurance

Titles are have different names in different states. Like in Michigan a car issued a salvage title can be inspected and if it passes it will be issued a rebuild title. You can insure a rebuilt title. This car has a rebuilt title. The only difference is if the car is totaled again you can expect less than clean title value for the car. Which makes total sense because you will most
likely have paid less for it. That being said if I were to purchase this vehicle and I got into an accident I would get a police report and or send in a picture of original damage for the claim. That way they don’t try to get out of repair costs. Funny thing is I got insurance for a car that was not considered scrap and the insurance had no problem selling it to me. If something happened though I’m sure I would have been screwed. Anyways you can insure a salvage/rebuild title if you perform the proper steps.

I also found that some banks and my credit union give loans up to 50% on salvage titled cars. It makes me think more about this process even though I am trying to listen to you guys and be patient. Buying a car for an extra 15 to 20k is just is just as bad to me as buying a rebuild title at a discount.

The $105000 , 718 GT4 did not sell because of the sellers lack of communications and inability to provide a DME report....another GT4 sold yesterday at $131000, I can't imagine what it would fetch if the market " as you perceive" was not cooling ...

Well that GT4 sold for $10K over MSRP with less than break in miles. That’s a bargain compared to 6 months ago.

Recent GTS and Spyder failed to get anywhere near MSRP…again not the case 6 months ago.

Perhaps it’s the winter, economy, or something else…but you see numbers lower in 981/2 auction results as compared to earlier in year.

Here’s a white PDK that sold for $33K over MSRP (+ 5K Bat fee) last summer at the height of the market. No manual, buckets, PCCBs, min build.

So there is the answer to your question, lots more than $10K over.

I offered 78k to see what would happen and they will not move off the 100k price tag. Thought they would come off to 85 or 90k. I can get a clean title and a warranty for 10 k more. So bye !!

Salvage for $100k, as others have said, hard pass. Spend more and get a clean car.

Sounds like they are way upside down and got caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

Car in post #13 is still available. Hoffman is a great place to do business
with and this car has been meticulously maintained according to my service advisor there
who I consider a personal friend. I was not interested in a Spyder, we were just chatting while standing next to it in the showroom. The salvage car took a nightmare
hit structurally. You can do clean repairs front and rear but when wrapped around a pole sideways you always have to compromise unless you you go all the way with replacing floor panels ,etc (which they didn't). It's worth a call to Anthony @ Hoffman Porsche 860 290 5503
