Default Do PCCBs provide for a more comfortable ride

I really like the PCCBs in my Spyder. They’ve been squeak free, incredibly responsive and minimize brake dust.

I haven’t notice any handling benefits but I will say going over the occasional highway bump seems more muted with the PCCBs than with the irons. The ride is more comfortable that I find myself in Sport (firm) mode all the time. With my previous Spyder (irons) I had sport off unless I was driving particularly enthusiastically.

Anyone notice a similar phenomena?

I did not spec my GT4 with PCCBs, but it make sense that the latter’s lower unsprung weight would noticeably improve ride quality.

Multiple benefits...

- Lower unsprung weight translates to improved ride quality, as the suspension has less inertia to overcome during an oscillation.
- Also when it comes to movement.. there will be less rotational mass also on the axles... so steering response is improved or freed up, \
- Less inertia to overcome on the driven axles.

There is always the other side of the coin though.... The more"freed up" the steering response is, the quicker it also reacts to imperfections, so you end up with a more busy steering wheel.

Case in point, the C8 Z06 has a different steering calibration for the Carbon Wheels option because it made the car too twitchy and too reactive. For street driving, there is such a thing as having too much road feel, unless you enjoy fighting the steering wheel all the time.

Newer shocks and tires ride better vs a set with a few 1000 miles on them. PCCBs allow the suspension to travel more freely, however as others have said, the rebound typically needs to be tuned accordingly to take advantage of this.

Go to know I’m not imagining things. PASM in normal mode with the PCCBs felt a little softer and less damped than I like. PASM in sport mode feels about perfect for me.

Comparing my Spyder with PCCB and a friends GT4 with irons, I find the ride quality and steering input to be noticeably different, as mentioned less harsh and more steering feel.

Oh and as for Normal versus Sport, on poor road surfaces or when the wife is along, I leave it in normal, when I am alone, at the track or on twisties then Sport Chassis is my setting of choice.

When I had my Targa GTS I ordered it with steels and drove it with them for over 1k miles before I swapped to PCCBs - I could immediately feel the difference and improvements, which is why I ordered my Spyder wth PCCBs, not to mention the lack of brake dust.
