Default My Porsche App

I have downloaded the new My Porsche app (iPhone), which I believe is replacing the Porsche Connect app. Had me enter my vehicle vin number, prove identity (via license upload) and ownership (via proof of insurance or registration).

A couple days later I get notification from Porsche indicating confirmation process complete, my account is active and my vehicle has been added to the new app.

Indeed, when I open the app, my vehicle is now loaded. Here is the problem. . .

I want the basic features like vehicle location, tire pressure, fuel, miles, oil level, whether doors are locked and windows closed, next service . . . basic stuff about my vehicle that seems to be a standard and free service with all other car manufacturer apps.

When I try to access the above basic features, it seems Porsche wants me to pay a service fee? Please tell me I am wrong and missing something? If so, how do I access these basic app features . . . without coughing up more money to Porsche?

Thank you

Avera

P.S. I did reach out to my local Porsche dealer and to the usual, 'We will have to check into it and get back to you.'

Similar experience here. Have iPhone app, received notification that my Spyder had been added to my Porsche ID. However, when I open the Porsche Connect app, I receive an unable to receive vehicle data error.

I didn't order my Spyder with navigation and thus assumed I wouldn't have Porsche Connect, so wasn't surprised or bothered about the error message.

I'm curious if you have navigation and if you receive a similar error in the app?

Does anyone purchase Porsche navigations services? Does anyone purchase any manufacturer's navigation services?

I mean, with Apple CarPlay (or Android equivalent), why in the world would anyone pay for a navigations service? I am surprised manufacturers still even offer navigation services?

It is not obvious to me that Porsche is asking me to purchase their navigation service in order to activate the basic features in the My Porsche app . . . but they might be?

I also had the same problem and when I looked for videos how to set it up, it shows that the internet connection on the car is required for the Porsche Connect feature. The internet connection appears to be added when you buy the navigation package. I didn’t buy navigation package because as stated above, who uses that?

Anyways, below are the details about the Navigation option and you can see where it calls out “4G LTE module” which is what provides the internet connection that would allow you to connect to the car and get the status.

Navigation including Porsche Connect features:

4G LTE module
Updatable onboard maps (first 3 years)
Embedded SIM card in addition to SIM card slot
Navigation & Infotainment Services (activated through My Porsche)

This gets better. I do have navigation but mine will likely not work either because I have a 2021 GT3 with a 3G module in it. Porsche sent out an email telling me I have to pay to upgrade it to a 4G module. I assume this will not work without a new 4G module.

don’t have pcm nav but have the new (crappy) app (old one funtioned better) on my 21 Spyder.
Yes, I had to pay subscription fee for location services (insurance requirement).
Now I know where my car is 😜 In fact I’ve also seen a Spyder in my app 50 miles north as “my” Porsche .

Mine says remote services not available. I don't have NAV. At one point it gave me the error message that the car is not connected to the internet.

C'mon Porsche, even my son's Subaru has all these funky features for free, including text alerts sent to me about speed, curfew and boundary violations.

Thank you all for confirming what I sensed to be the case and falls under the heading of 'the Porsche cash register is the gift that keeps on giving'

I do not mind how Porsche sets up their vehicle builds, as it gives buyers the option to make our vehicles as simple or pimped-out as desired. It is not so much that you always 'get what you pay for' . . . rather, you pay for what you want

The above stated, I think Porsche is reaching too far into our wallets with this My Porsche app

I have Nav in my 2022 Spyder.

My SA pretty much forced me to set it up on my phone when I picked up the car even though I didn’t want it. (I am old school, don’t like electronics.) I think he needed it done as part of the delivery process.

There was another delivery specialist guy that was going thru the car with me. The jist that I got from him was with the current generation of PCM in the car, you can’t get much information from the app.

Disclaimer: I could be wrong in my recollection or interpretation of what transpired since I was not very interested in it.

This is accurate. My 2021 was delivered with 3G and was obsolete within 1 year. Until that time, the Porsche app worked perfectly. And then overnight it no longer worked.
My dealer offered to upgrade it for free to 4G, they told me they had to remove the entire dashboard from the car and it would be a two day process. I decided it was not worth it. I don’t trust that they could stop rattles and bolts from being misapplied. So now I drive old-school, nobody knows where the car is but me.

There now seems to be two issues at play . . .

1. Porsche wants to launch a new app and charge us for usage. This does not sit well with me given the basic app features I am after, as well as the fact that similar app features seem to come 'free' with other manufacturer apps offering similar features.

That said, and given the world we currently live, I am confident other manufacturers will follow suit with Porsche and start charging for these app features.

2. I do not know the models year/make where the 3G, 4G and, presumably 5G transitions with software occurred, but I have a 21' GT4 and suspect whatever PCM version I have is probably obsolete when it comes to using the new My Porsche app . . . and, of course, Porsche is discontinuing support for the Connect app that would work perfectly fine.

I say 'would work' because my Porsche dealership told me not to even bother setting up the Connect app when I bought my car because Porsche was going to stop supporting the app. Funny how they new the Connect app was going to be discontinued but could not tell me how to setup the new My Porsche app.

At any rate, I think my original question has been answered . . . no way I am going to get some basic phone app features from Porsche without an annual service fee and probably also having to tearing my vehicle apart (more cost) to update obsolete PCM components.

Never used any of these "Apps". I do not see, or have the need for what they do (if you purchase them).

The basic functions typically offered fall under the category of 'nice convenience.'

Nice to know fuel range, oil level, tire pressures, whether car is locked/unlocked, windows are up/down, next service requirement, etc. Very simple features that should absolutely be free. I would not pay for them . . . although I feel I did with the purchase cost of the vehicle. I mean, Porsche Connect was free and provided most, if not all of these functions, in my other Porsche vehicles.

Then there are more advanced feature that, at least with my recent ///M cars, have been free and included the ability to get 360 degree view of car surroundings, cabin pre-ventilation, etc. I enjoyed those features, but would not pay for them.

However, again, all seems to be a moot point in my situation, as I do not THINK my GT4 has the most recent PCM version (e.g., 4G/5G cards) to even allow me to setup the My Porsche app???

I understand if someone wants to "play" with these features, yet I know the "fuel range, oil level, tire pressures, whether car is locked/unlocked, windows are up/down, next service requirement, etc." as soon as I sit in the car.

For me, these are non-value add features, and not worth any money. Do you really need them?? Or are they just an "Oooh Woow" the first few times, and then they are forgotten about and never used again.

To each their own - YMMV.
