Hello,

Can anyone suggest the best operation for running in our new 22 Spyder, we have less than 100 klm’s so far?
Thankyou.

may as well ask what the best oil to use is. you will get lots of varying responses.

factory was keep the revs low, and varied, for 2k miles. some do, some don't, some go in the middle. personally i won't be selling my 718 so i followed the factory 2k manual info.

The owners manual states:
”The moving parts of a new vehicle must be run in. The parts require the first 2,000 miles (3,000 km) for this purpose. The oil and fuel consumption may be somewhat higher than normal during this period.

During the running-in period, drive as follows:
▸Preferably take long trips. Avoid frequent cold starts with short-distance driving whenever possible.▸Avoid full throttle starts and abrupt stops.▸Do not participate in motorsport events, sports driving training or similar events.▸Avoid high engine speeds of 4,000 rpm or more. Drive at low engine speeds when the engine is cold.▸Do not let the engine labor, especially when driving uphill. Shift to the next lower gear in time (use the most favorable rpm range).▸Never lug the engine in high gear at low speeds. This rule applies at all times, not just during the break-in period. There may be a slight stiffness in the steering gear-shifting or other controls during the break-in period which will gradually disappear.”

You need to remember you're not only bedding in the engine but also the other components such as gearbox, suspension and brakes.

Personally I did 1800 miles in my GTS 4.0 before pushing past 4000 rpm and braking hard. The trick is to be patient. The miles will pile on before you know it then you can open the taps.
