It seems that PDLS+ (LED lights) are not available on the configurator for the GT4. I saw other threads saying that this is due to Ukraine / supply chain issues. Anyone hear about whether this may change?

Also is preparation for Porsche dashcam worth it? I've never used a dashcam, but it's only $130. I live in the US, and I understand in other countries dash cams are very popular.

My GT4 build locks October 11th and should be delivered December 23rd!! I've been thinking about getting a Cayman for over 10 years!

 

As you have likely gathered from the thread on the discontinuation of PDLS+, it's not clear if this situation is temporary. No one knows if it will return and anything you may hear with respect to this option being restored is conjecture. This is really a wait and see situation.

 

PDLS+ is standard equipment in some markets so I would expect it to come back to other markets eventually. I wouldn't wait on it tho.

 

As for the dashcam, to be clear, the option is for "preparation for dashcam"; the $130 gets you the pre-wiring to plug-and-play the Porsche dashcam, which will set you back another ~$500.

It's not clear if other dashcams will be compatible, but I'm sure some intrepid individuals will sort that out in due time.

Which brings me to another point; the pre-wiring dashcam option was only made available for MY23. People are JUST NOW- like, this week- taking deliveries on these cars, so reviews right this minute may be hard to come by.

I'm sure folks will begin chiming in soon enough. I have it on my car but honestly haven't put too much thought to it; I'll probably try to work out having it installed if not at delivery then very soon after.

That said, the dashcam itself does have some reviews. TL;DR, it's good not great. There are apparently better aftermarket options available for at or lower cost... but I'd prefer to have the option available from the factory and just pay the Porsche tax. My car isn't parked in accessible areas frequently at all, so a rear-facing camera isn't of utmost importance to me but I may investigate it later on...

 

No, the Porsche dashcam is mediocre at best. Nothing fancy, just a Porsche re-label of some average product.

It's all well and great to be "factory" integrated, but until it works as a proper dashcam that has parking recording capability (which it does not) and it's only forward facing, gotta have at least forward and rear real-time recording capabilities, these are not even discussion points in 2022.

Porsche tax is unnecessary on this one.

I'll stay with my BlackVue DR900s all day everyday and twice on Sunday.

 

I got the dashcam prep uncertain if I would even use it. For $130 it seems pretty cheap in the portion options world for a chance to avoid a major headache wiring stuff after production. I am however hoping that there's some aftermarket compatibility eventually especially with fitcams.

 

I've found that folks that have already gone through the act of installing a camera REALLY come down hard on the Porsche option. Mostly for rear-facing capability, but you seem to be convinced it doesn't have parking recording... I'm not going to assume you're wrong here just making sure I'm tracking-

Now I'm sure it's not as feature-rich as some other options like the one you listed (which is another habit I've noted from the "dashcam guys"; they always say the make/model of the camera they use and that it's the best); but this seems to me to have "parking recording capability". Right?

The "manuvers" (sic) part kind of has me concerned...

Just add an aftermarket dashcam like BlackVue. It's very simple for a novice to do themselves. I added a Escort MaxCam 360c dashcam and radar detector all in 1 and installed it with a add a fuse kit wired to the passenger side fuse box. You just plug it into the bottom row of the fuse box for switched power what means when the cars battery is on the dashcam will have power. If you want constant power for a dash cam you plug the add a fuse kit into the 2nd from the bottom row on the fuse box.

PDLS+ isn’t a stop sale at this point but rather been removed as an option entirely for MY23. Porsche could potentially add it back at a later date but there’s no indications of that happening anytime soon or even at all.

 

Why wouldn't the wiring from Porsche be usable with other cameras?

Actually, I really want the Porsche OEM version to succeed because "factory" trumps a cleaner install that no aftermarket product can match.

What irks me is not that aftermarket dashcams are superior, that's a fact. Rather the audacity Porsche has with charging for their rebranded mediocre product made by "don't know who".

There is alot of marketing blurb in Porsche's dashcam, demonstrating "in-consistent" capabilities and hiding actual performance specs.

It's an overpriced 1080p Porsche branded dashcam with functions that might work when the stars align.

 

I get it. I guess I'll just hope the stars align more frequently than they don't. I've never had a dashcam so maybe it'll be a good "starter set" that I'll upgrade eventually, but the factory element appealed to me as well.
