Rag-tops: leaving the top down when parked in public
When I am not going to be away too long, and it is in a reasonably public place (and there is no risk of rain, of course), I have been leaving the top down, with the windows up.
Yes, it makes me nervous with respect to the general public, and possibly it exposes the interior to more sun than is absolutely necessary, but there is nothing in it to steal anyway. With the windows up, they'd look pretty silly and obvious trying to crawl in, anyway. (You can lock the doors with the top down and the alarm won't go off, right? lol)
People's thoughts here? It is a rather expensive piece of kit, and this does not jive with the desire of keeping it in top form, necessarily.

since I put in P1 Design custom fabric inserts I always put mine up, even on short stops... I worry about fading, a bird with great aim, or some jerk tossing something into it (and I have had that happen twice over the years).. I went so far as to purchase theporsche windshield screen too... that said, ive been to by my wife im a 'touch' OCD

I have been putting mine up, each and every time, no matter how long or short the trip might be - I am more worried about someone coming by and deciding they might want to toss something in the cabin for kicks, as opposed to being worried about theft....

How much do you trust the public?

Plus one on all the answers leaving the top down on public. I also always put mine up. However short the stop. I’ve had all the issues with my prior convertibles: bird poop, people tossing garbage in the car, seats getting super hot, sun damage. Plus it collects unnecessary dust inside the car with it sitting open. They collect enough dust as it is. A final plus is that it stretches the top when up and prevents creasing if sitting folded for extended periods. And I DON’T trust the public as @TXshaggy said

If you just happen to live and drive in a Super-Safe location then you might get away with leaving the top down.
But ............
Based on all the Crazy things that the Public can and does do ...............
There's No-Way in HELL I'd leave the top down.
You might come back and there be a Milkshake, Coke, Icy, popcorn, candy of all kinds, and that list continues to anything and everything buddy dropped in on the interior.
Adrift, this is a Serious suggestion from me to you .............
Don't do it !!!
Terry

Given this is a Porsche board, and has more than it's fair share of OCD perfectionists, I knew the answer would be conservatively weighted. And not that anyone is wrong. I have all the same concerns as stated above, believe me. Still, if this is a car to be driven, and not parked / worshipped, I feel like I need to "let go" some, too, right? Tours and track time will be hard on the car, and I don't plan to shrink from either.
