So I found a while ago that a polarising filter stuck in front of the chrono clock can cut that annoying windscreen reflection down to the point where it is no longer noticeable when driving at night.



Here's a video to show the effect which is quite dramatic. Note that it doesn't eliminate the reflection completely, but it cuts it down so much that you really don't notice it at all.

I have spent the last few months messing around with 3d prints and adhesive solutions that don't fall apart when the car is parked in the sun on a hot day. To the point I am finally happy to release this into the world. People who want to 3D print one and get their hands on the right size polarising filter themselves i'll be happy to share the .stl file and some instructions with once I get them written up, but if I were to make a batch up and ship them out, I want to see whether there is any interest, and what design people will be the most interested in.

Here are the options.

1. 62mm polarising filter (This is the one in the video)
Pros:
- Filter remains intact and gives you the ability to rotate the polarising lens freely which might be useful if it is conflicting with polarised sunglasses (I haven't found this to be an issue personally)
- Should work with ANY brand of polarising filter
Con:
- It's the bulkier of the 2 options, but looking square on from the drivers seat this difference is very small.



2. 58mm Lens Only
Pro:
Smaller Profile, less obvious
Cons:
- Fixed in position and can't be rotated
- Only tested with one specific brand/type of filter, might not fit other brands


This might work with some other Porsches as well but the only other car I have tested so far is a friends 991 GT2 RS, and to my surprise the bezel is actually a rather different size on his car. So for now all I can be confident in it fitting is the 718.

I can see the reflection but it seems to be outside of my primary view when driving. Doesn’t bother me too much. However, I don’t drive at night too much with this car.

In the day time, the bezel reflection is more obvious.

I have made a new revision with a tapered faring that is starting to look very OEM, a couple of minor tweaks to the dimensions and an acetone bath and I think I will have officially reached the point where only the keenest observer will notice this thing.

This will be a $300 option on the 2024 Porsches unless you patent it...lol.

 

Its the 58mm one. Same lens as above but fits over the bezel rather than inside it.

 

This looks really good! Does it just slip inside the existing clock housing? I would be interested in purchasing one, I notice mine more at night. It is a white face that matches the gauges.

This one sits over the top of the bezel and is held in place with some non residue double sided tape. If I can dial the shape in well enough I would like to make one that clips in place but that will need a LOT more work to make properly.

There's a person on another forum that has accomplished this "clip on" you speak of. He has the 3D file that can do this. I will PM you. Perhaps you both can collaborate and bring it to market.
