100% agree - drove an M135 at the 'Ring a few years ago - what a mess - back end could not settle and the weight transfers were "energetic" ...

E46 CSL would be my choice easily - every M car afterwards perhaps with the exception of the 1M just got heavier, uglier, and had more complex $h*t on it ... E92 stability control was WAY too intrusive for track IMO...

congrats on the sale I just went the opposite direction M2C to GTS 4.0 and I had no loss on the M2C after 2 years of ownership (this market is nuts)
I really enjoyed the M2C, it's a different kind of fun than a 4.0 but still a fun car , not a bad car to live with in transition

Other than not having active suspension I liked my M2/M2c. It reminds me how good and ahead the E46 was. What happend BMW? The F87 should have arrived in 2008 and the M3 today should be the best one car fits all. Now i have to look into the GT4rs for the ultimate driving machine.

You can argue the other things all day long, but when it comes to driving dynamics and a buttoned down ride (which gives driver's confidence), you can't look past them. Outside of the exotic offerings, there is little competition.

I had an M2 with manual transmission
Complete REMUS cat back and FABSPEED downpipe, loved it!

I disagree with that. While some will put their noses up at it, IMO the "Ultimate Driving Machines" are coming from GM's Camaro and Corvette departments right now. They have the chassis / suspension / MRC technology / damping all down pat and ON POINT!!!

yes however - "you can put lipstick on a pig - but its still a pig" - its all in the eye of the beholder, but you could not give me a GM - (I think they hired their designers from Mattel's "Hot Wheels division) they do nothing for me other than make me slightly nauseous - YMMV
Of course, that is all subjective and that's why I said the rest can be argued all day long, but you can't deny the driving dynamics or how it all come together as a complete package that is super confidence inspiring from a driving standpoint.

I had a 2016 M2, and thought it was very similar to my 97 M3, E36. LOL. My M2 had the auto transmission. It was a hoot. Traded it for my AWD M5
My '19 Boxster GTS is much more of a hoot than the M2 in every way! LOL. But my M2 was not 400 hp

Driven both, owned a number of ///M cars (E92, 1M, F80). The 718 is a more precise tool, however the ///M is more wild and exciting. The MT action in the ///M is not great though. Personally I don't see these cars being comparable. The 718 is IMO the most pure and balanced sports car available, as to which one is more fun, that depends on what you are after. Both fantastic machines.
