Default Does aftermarket exhaust matter from inside the car?

So it seems pretty clear that those who like a throaty loudish exhaust system aren't too happy with the stock 4.0 set up.

what I wonder about is how much of a difference does changing the exhaust make in terms of your driving experience while sitting IN the car?

isn't it mainly inducation and engine noise that dominates the in cabin experience?

I am coming from 2 981 cayman S's with the standard exhaust and I was never disappointed with the sound inside the cabin while I drove, it still sounded like a race car inside the car!

Aftermarket exhaust makes a huge difference inside of the car. That’s the primary reason I added one. Sounds nice outside as well, but that wasn’t really a descriminating factor for me when purchasing.

You may like the stock sound from inside though. I just thought it was very tame until high in rev range.

It makes a huge difference. For me, once I experienced the sound, I couldn’t imagine my car without it. Plus not every exhaust is about being too loud, like Kline which is all about a refined tone.
But if you didn’t have a sport exhaust in your last car, you wouldn’t feel something is missing.

Compared to my 987.1 base Boxster (no sports exhaust), my Spyder with PSE OFF sounds as good or better than my 987 did. What’s lacking is the tone in PSE ON mode, and the valves being closed at low-mid RPM ranges. It’s a big downgrade compared to the 981 PSE setup, but no worse than a 981 without PSE. Below 4500-ish RPM, on the stock muffler, I actually like the sound with valves closed better because valves open sounds like two Mitsubishi Mirages with fart can mufflers trying to race each other. Makes sense given the valves open exhaust setup really is a straight through for each bank with no left/right bank mixing.

I had a Sharkwerks track exhaust on my 911 and it was almost unbearable inside until 8K RPM then it was glorious.

Same here. You have the Kline exhaust right? I forget if you have inconcel and the Kline headers as well or just OAPs + back box exhaust.

I started off with just the rear and OAP and added the headers afterwards. All Kline. Sounds amazing inside. Little loud outside at high revs but thats ok

Yes definitely. I can't go back to stock after getting an exhaust.

Agree, and it is even louder inside a Spyder due to the soft top, but I love it with the top up or down.
