Because a CTEK maintainer desulphates and conditions the battery, it can last 2-3 times longer than the typical battery life. After my OEM battery went in my 2003 Boxster S, it was always plugged into the CTEK whenever it was parked in my garage. I had an Interstate lead acid battery that was over 10 years old and still going strong when I decided I should replace it just because it was so old. The Bosch AGM I bought next was over 4 years old and still in great shape when I sold that car.
What you are described sounds like more of a PITA than changing out a battery every five years.
I use a battery maintainer every few months or so but certainly not every day.
