Default GT4 2-Zone Automatic Climate Control (Upgrade Questions)???

"2-Zone Automatic Climate Control - With separate temperature controls for the driver and passenger and offering a choice of three climate setting profiles. An active carbon filter traps particles, pollen and odors and thoroughly filters fine dust out of the outside air before it can reach the interior."

If I mostly drive solo in my GT4, what advantage is there in upgrading to the (2-Zone Climate Control)?

Does the (2-Zone) have better cooling in very HOT and HUMID climates; like Arizona or Florida?

Is there No dust compartment and filter in the standard system, or do I have to add a "fancy" carbon filter, over and above the "standard" filter?

What other considerations might I be missing???

The base controls are garbage and Porsche should be ashamed of themselves for even offering it.

The main advantage to the 2-zone is that it is not a rudimentary system like you had on cheap cars in 1985. Like the base system is. If you don't spec the 2-zone you will be messing with the manual fan speed and manual heater (0-100%, no temperature indications) until the end of time.

2-zone is set desired temp and forget.

It doesn't cool any better or worse on max cold, the hardware is the same.

I have two friends who ordered their Cayman GT4 and Spyder without automatic climate control. Both of them have cited this as one of their biggest oversights.

I wish I had ordered the dual zone, I though I had ordered it but somehow I did not.

Like others have said, don't get caught up on the "2-zone" part - mine is 100% of the time in sync mode. Do get caught up on the "Automatic" portion.
Unless it's fall/spring, I am never adjusting the temperature: get in, car automatically starts cooling / heating to desired temperature and will auto adjust fan speed once it's close to that temperature. Without the automatic climate control, you have to continually adjust the manual fan speed and temperature (hot/cold, no number) of the system.

The only annoying part (and I believe this is true of the base system as well) is that if you have it off (windows open, weather is good) - when you start the car again it will be at the lowest fan speed and you have to move the fan speed down to turn it off again.

I found 2-Zone Automatic Climate Control under the heading, things better than sliced bread!

You definitely want it.

An extra detail over the comments above - the base climate control is very, very granular.... as in, it feels like it takes 200+ clicks to move the fan speed and temp from 0 to halfway, etc.

Dang, I wish I would have seen this sooner.. Who would have ever thought in a $120-150k car that you would even have to think about something so mundane. The base climate controls are unbelievable. It would have been better just to put the manual slider for the fan and temp like back in the 80's. The moving one click that's separate for fan and temp is really unacceptable and takes way too long of a time when you're sitting in a hot car. **** poor design for sure if they were going to skimp on manual controls....

Yep. My first 981 had the basic controls and it was incredibly annoying to use. Felt like it took 200 clicks to move the needle on the temp or fan speed.

I do wonder if it's possible to merely pick up a "dual zone" control unit from a salvage yard and drop it in, if it will work....

Really good idea.. With everything on this car going through CANbus though, I would wonder if it's plug and play also. So far almost anything I've seen that you try to "upgrade" requires some sort of programming. With this being a basically computerized interface, it wouldn't surprise me.

Dealer activation required (of course), and retrofit is not likely. Everything I've seen, if it's not optioned, even seasoned DIYers can't add the option at a later time for most things. They really make sure they lock most things out after the car is built.

I'm gonna be the minority here but i actually regret getting the 2-zone climate control. The Auto does nothing for me as the temp that is comfortable to me when i'm in the car varies depending on the outside weather. On a super warm day 75 can be very cool or very hot depending on if its overcast or sunny, on a cold day 75 can either be too cold or too hot depending on if its raining or just windy. It's to the point where i am setting it manually all the time. Because i also adjust how hot or cold it gets in the cabin by varying the fan speed. I can have it set to LOW but can make the cabin warmer or hotter by just adjusting fan speed. All auto ever seems to do is to just max everything out as soon as i get in the car and then periodically as i'm driving in order to attempt to keep the car at said "desired" temp.

I mean maybe its just me, but the temp i want the car to be at over a drive can change multiple times during the drive.

I'm in the minority with you.

I have the 2-zone climate control in my RS, and I MUCH prefer the dumb, basic controls that I had in my GT4. It wasn't an option on the RS...annoyingly.
