Its really like Farah says. If you like the manual, get a manual. If you like the PDK (quick shifts, auto cruise control for comfort), get PDK. You can't loose either way. Friend ordered PDK Spyder because he wants to cruise around town in comfort. I will be getting manual because I like it in my GT4 and I think Porsche may not be producing manuals for long (but that's what we said last generation )

Porsche makes great manual AND dual-clutch auto transmissions. Go figure

Those who love a manual transmission are not going to wish they had purchased a PDK simply because of what folks are calling the Spyder's tall gearing. The car is damn near perfect. Do I wish the gears were a tad shorter? Sure. But so much so that the car fails to be what I wanted it to be? Not even close. Get the manual.

Perhaps nuanced, but should be noted GT PDKs behave quite differently than the rest of the Porsche PDK lineup…just saying.

I only mention it because I see people comment on other line PDKs all the time; including Macans in relation to GT PDKs.

I suspect most on here filter on transmission first before anything else when building configs; so not surprised people like their choices.

I've been driving manual Caymans since 2007 including GT4s since 2017. About 1/3 of my driving is track and I have had no issues with "Long Gears" on street or track. I have been a PCA HPDE instructor for 12 years and have been in many PDK Porsches on track. The PDK vehicles are slightly faster on track but it's maybe a second a lap. If my GT4 was a daily driver in heavy stop and go traffic I would opt for the PDK otherwise I'd stick with a manual. Prior to my Caymans my Porsches were a 1962 356 Super and 1983 944, obviously manual.

PDK in the GT4 was not available until the 2021 model year which skews the results. On the other hand I have a 2020 6MT and love it.

Availability perhaps, but for most they will only pick the transmission they want, if the Spyder only came with a PDK I doubt I would have bought it!

The relevant question is how many manual drivers regret their decision (in terms of judging whether manual is significantly flawed). The number of pdk owners/voters is irrelevant to that question. As of now, 2 out of 33 manual owners indicate disappointment in the manual. If they spent time in a pdk as well as a manual, that might change things (or not), but I worry that sample size would be too small.

Interesting assumption, 2 said they rather have a PDK, perhaps they now have a different use pattern, traffic with stop and go or perhaps track use... in this case it would be more of the right tool for the job OR they chose incorrectly to begin with!

For you or anybody deciding and which transmission to choose, IMHO it is not a question for others, only for yourself.

I have to say that I think this is overblown as well. Do they shift quicker, yes, but it's marginally so. The standard PDK in my 991.1 C2S shifted lightning fast. Test driving a 991.1 GT3 and then jumping back into my C2S, the difference in the PDK wasn't material enough to have any bearing on my buying decision.

The standard PDK shifts in less than 100 milliseconds, faster than you can blink.

I didn't vote because I do not have my car yet, but I ordered it with the PDK.

One thing not mentioned here, which is an advantage for the PDK is the better rear diff. locking %. Which help both with straight line traction and in the twisties.

It’s not the shift speed, it’s the telepathic and predictive nature that makes it a different experience. No creep, PDK Sport, better LSD, clutch kick etc. doesn’t hurt either

Yes, they all shift quick…even the regular boxes.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. It was the first non-starter for me on the C8 Vette and the GT500. I am not saying I would have bought one of those had it been offered. But it immediately took them out of any potential consideration.

I've driven two .1 GT3s and didn't notice anything except a slightly quicker/firmer shift. Didn't feel anymore telepathic or predictive than the one in my C2S.

I’m sticking with manual, I’ve decided. If I get a gt3 allocation and fool myself into thinking I can afford it, I’ll get the pdk.
