Looks like fun. I hope to go back there in October or so after the driving season in Russia ends. I used to live 2 hrs driving from the NS most of my life but these days I'm lucky to get 1 trackday there once every 2 years. So then I spent half the time figuring out where they changed the surfaces. Definitely a track that rewards doing lots of laps on a regular basis.

Serious question: why turn off the ESP (and possibly TC) on the Ring? I don't find that it interferes at all until you're driving at about 95%, and with possible oil/coolant spills or various other disasters waiting behind every blind corner I don't see any benefit to turn it off there only possible negatives. I run with everything off on "normal" tracks where you tend to be much more on the limit but for the Ring.. nope! FWIW I did a 7:34 BTG that way in a 3.4L Cayman 981 on cup2 several years ago so it's not particularly slow.

What a blast, I drove it in a GT-R for my 55th Birthday. I hope to go back and do it in a Porsche GT3 when the virus drama ends.

ditto 2018 GT3 manual. and I agree no benefit to running "off" at the 'Ring... quite the opposite

The photo is within milliseconds of catching not your typical "4 wheels off" moment.

Ah that explains it - BMW's traction and stability systems are "horrible" for the track ... far too invasive!

I recall driving an E92 M3 in MDM mode at Spa - every apex it cut the power ...

PSM etc is much much better on track ...

Totally agree.....I have an F80 M3 ZCP and you do have to turn off the nannies. That and the horrible suspension setup really bothers me. Never take it to the track...maybe I should test the new M3???
The ones on any GT product from Porsche are just awesome, even Walter Röhrl mentioned during the launch of the 718 GT4, that he can't extract any extra time with nannies Off.
I never turn them off....

over the years I have come to dislike/detest BMW's M products - for me the last "real" M car was the E46 M3 & CSL ... (and even then - what about those brakes by "Dixie paper plates") the cars have got increasingly heavier
and more complex, their suspension is "interesting" at best ... and their stability/traction control is far too intrusive for fast track work ... even the M2C that is touted as the (current) best drivers M car I think is seriously flawed,
it overheats and its rear suspension just does not inspire confidence in the corners ..

the measure of their abilities "out of the box" - is that you seldom if ever see an unmodified (fast) M car at the 'Ring ... they are all wearing aftermarket brakes, suspension and aero ... 'nuff said!

I dont ever turn off PSM ... there is no need because you never notice it "looking over your shoulder" or negatively intervening

Totally agree!!! BMW's suspension tuning sucks *****. As does their traction/stability control systems.

I heard on a video that I watched recently on YouTube (however not sure how true it is) that the new M's are now using the MRC shocks that a lot of MFG's are using now including GM, Audi, Ford, Ferrari, Lambo. Also, on the new M (at least the Comp. model) they have multiple levels of traction control, which should fix that issue, but who knows if they have fixed their stability control system. In either case, I don't really care as M is now just a fast luxury sedan, there is no motorsport left in the new one. Way too heavy and no DCT.
