So one other topic to cover in my review here - that darn ticking noise from the engine, as discussed on other threads. No, it doesn't go away. No, you don't at all get used to it. I find it annoying and I think it is the single biggest negative about the car. (Well, that and how bad the stock exhaust sounds. But the exhaust is an easy fix, the ticking noise is not fixable.)
The 992 911 has it too.
While I will always be annoyed by it, I have learned to accept it. This car is so incredible in all other ways that I in spite of that annoyance, I am ordering another one.
What else would I buy, as an alternative? There is really nothing else out there that floats my boat like the Cayman GTS 4.0 does. I have checked out pretty much everything that I would consider to be an alternative, and this is the one for me. Close runner up is the GT4, but as a daily driver for spirited driving on Country Roads, this is the one for me over the GT4 for several reasons, as I have written up in my reviews. Both are amazing!
As I mentioned previously, I felt I needed to order one with my preferred spec now in the 2022 Model Year, as the future is uncertain as it relates to the 718's, particularly the 4.0's. Best to secure one with my preferred spec, and not regret it later!

White Gauges are really cool! I wish they were available for the 982 spyder.

Updating my thread here. Now I am 8 months in, and 13K+ miles. It has been a GREAT summer in the Windy City with the Cayman!! Best car EVER for me.
This thread started out as a review thread, and then turned into a discussion around my thoughts on perhaps ordering another 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 in a new spec. I love my Albert Blue CGTS 4.0, but still I wanted to do my own custom order. Over the course of the summer, I realized that with my love of the windows down driving in Spring, Summer and Fall, I should consider one of the convertibles. I went back and forth on the Pros and Cons of the Boxster GTS 4.0 and the Spyder. The BGTS 4.0 allocations are easier to get, and easier to get at MSRP. But at the end of the day I felt like I had "been there and done that" with the GTS 4.0, and should go for the "GT Car" version, especially as much as I have enjoyed experiencing @tdlondon 's GT4, with the less sound deadening and more raw feeling in the cabin, and the sharper chassis handling - particularly after he did the TPC Rear Toe Link and Alignment to make it more compliant. But in Spyder form.
Spyder allocations are particularly hard to come by, especially now. But allocations are finally starting to arrive, and I was able to secure one today, with the help of a broker. Just ordered a 2022 718 Spyder today, GT Silver Manual with the Sport Classic Interior, Red Roof, Black Wheels, 18 Ways, Heated Steering Wheel and Seats. Should arrive by May 2022. I did have to pay an ADM - $20K. Steep, but I wasn't willing to risk missing the opportunity if for some reason they stop building these at end of MY2022. YOLO.
Also of note - I was considering the 992 911 GTS Coupe Manual, with the Lightweight Package with 18-Ways. That Lightweight Package is pretty cool, rear seat delete and reduced sound deadening like a GT3, GT4 or Spyder. As I experienced challenges and frustrations with dialing in the exhaust for the 718, I very seriously considered going forward with one of these. I was #1 on the list at MSRP, with an allocation expected this month. At the end of the day I decided to stick with the 718 with the Spyder, despite having to pay an ADM on the Spyder versus no ADM on the 911 GTS. The 718's are just that darn good! I like the styling better on the 718's, and the size, weight and feel of them. The 911's are just too big for me, and overall just don't seem to float my boat, I have driven several. A big thing for me also was the NA engine versus the Turbo engine. I just love that NA power delivery and sound. I am on a list for the GT3 Touring - if I consider a 911 down the road, that is the only one I could pick over a 718 GT car.
Back to the Spyder, I can carry over many of my mods from the Cayman, particularly the HRE Wheels and Tires, and the Exhaust.
As you guys can see from my exhaust thread, I am currently running the JCR Silenced Valved Exhaust with the Cargraphic High Flow Filter Shielded OAPs. That is the best setup so far, but I may do some more experimentation before the Spyder comes in.

Nice choices Pete! Classic build for a Spyder. I certainly love my GT silver Boxster GTS and the top down driving. I also would’ve preferred a Spyder but practicality and lack of allocations made me “settle” for a Boxster.

Your GT Silver Boxster is terrific. I have been looking at your pictures and that convinced me that GT Silver was the right color for me if I went Boxster, and that I would be totally happy with a Boxster versus a Spyder.
But then FOMO kicked in with fears of the NA/ICE 4.0's going away soon and this being a last chance, so I decided to pony up and pay the ADM, and get the GT version, new with a custom spec to my details, while I still had the chance.

According to Dr.Walliser, the 4.0 is sticking around until 2026 when Euro7 kicks in, and then the 4.0 future is in doubt.

I am not sure - will figure that out in the spring. Probably not, they will be pretty similar. I might overlap them a bit to compare and then sell Albert later in the summer or into the fall...

So it has been just over 4 months and almost 6,000 miles with “Albert”, my Albert Blue Manual Cayman GTS 4.0.
For me, the GTS 4.0 is a perfect daily driver for spirited driving on B roads, which is my primary use case. I don't commute to an office, so I use it 70% for B road driving and 30% for running errands around town. It is my primary car for 9-10 months of the year (still need to add a “winter car”, working on getting the garage ready for a lift). The GTS 4.0 is great fun at or near the speed limits, the NA engine is a blast and you don’t have to be going insane speeds to have it be exhilarating. The 911s I drove were amazing, but also they felt bigger and faster, in a way that you had to be going at much higher speeds to get that same feeling of exhilaration. Back in the day I had a 1997 Boxster (which at 201 HP was grossly underpowered, but the chassis feel was amazing) and a 1999 996 911 C2 Cab (which was awesome) - the Cayman GTS 4.0 feels like a modern day interpretation of both, to me, the chassis feel of the Boxster with the power, agility and NA Flat 6 glory of the 911 (and then some - 394 HP versus 294 .
