PROJECT 718 GT4: nothingman's build
#16
I asked my service guy about installing an aftermarket muffler when they do my engine and he said their preference was to put the car back together stock. Note, they have to demonstrate that the motor has been swapped before Porsche issues the new engine stickers, so photos may be involved.

Picked up the car today from All American Paint Protection where it received full Paint Protection Film (PPF) over the entire car using XPEL Ultimate plus film. When I first met with the team and AAPP, I told them I wanted full PPF coverage that couldn't be detected. They responded by plotting all of the pieces (not using pre-cut) and wrapping all of the panels around the edges, removing the headlights, tail lights, rear wing, and side mirrors to apply the film without any detectable seams. They did such an incredible job, you would have to look really hard to find any proof of PPF. Mission accomplished!

After finally getting the car home, it was time to install the Stud Conversion Kit and mount the custom BBS FI-R wheels. Featuring relief holes to make them some of the lightest wheels on the market, BBS FI-R are super strong wheels capable of the harshest driving conditions. We began by removing each stock wheel, weighing them and comparing to the new wheels:
Stock wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 (PSC2) tires:
BBS FI-R wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (PS4S) tires:
According to specs posted on Tire Rack, both PSC2 and PS4S tires in OEM sizes weigh the same at 24lbs front and 29 lbs rear each, so the weight savings indicated above should be based purely upon the wheels.
After mounting the new wheels and Fabspeed exhaust, we weighed the entire car with 3/4 fuel and the result was 3,172lbs. Not bad!
Stock wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 (PSC2) tires:
Front: 48lbs
Rear: 55lbs
Rear: 55lbs
BBS FI-R wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (PS4S) tires:
Front: 41lbs
Rear: 48lbs
The result was a 7lb per wheel/tire savings or 28lbs overall in unsprung weight. This may not sound significant, however it’s widely considered that unsprung weight can equate to 3-6x sprung weight such as fuel load or passengers. This means in essence you will 'feel' the benefits of removing the equivalent of 84-168lbs from the vehicle; a significant amount of weight. This weight reduction should yield huge benefits in handling and response.Rear: 48lbs

Today we added vinyl racing stripes. The idea was to pay tribute to the GT2RS in a similar style on the hood and roof with the addition of a portion of the rear. In keeping with the blue & silver theme consistent with the exterior blue paint, silver wheels, and interior silver stitching we went with a 3M Satin White Aluminum vinyl that provided a stockish appearance. The work was completed by Urban Werks and they did a fantastic job wrapping around the edges.
