Yep, I went over them with 400 grit sandpaper. This was a bit challenging because of the adhesive backing that needed to stay affixed and the intricate curves of the emblem. Plus, the chrome is more durable than I expected.

I considered using a Dremel or die grinder but the SEM paint says it's OK to apply on chrome so I took a chance. Time will tell now.

How does this work? Did you paint them in place? Do you have any pictures of the finished result?

I removed the Targa emblems on my last P-car and had Eric at bumperplugs.com paint them and plan to do the same this time, in Racing Yellow. I know I will be able to remove mine and reinstall them so I will not be buying new ones; however, here are the part#s in case someone needs them:

FYI: They are $330 the pair shipped from Annapolis Porsche to me in FL.

I like the matte black logo look as well but would like to have a factory finish if possible.
Just now eyeballing it with a ruler. It looks like the rear matte black Spyder logo has the same dimensions as the ones on the trunk flaps...maybe?

I say give it a shot, for the good of the forum! I have done similar things in the past and worst case is you can return them, especially if you buy them from a place like Annapolis Porsche - Tommy, the Internet parts guy has never charged me a restock fee.

Just thought of it but you could take a piece of printer paper and lay it over the one on the rear and rub it to make an impression and then compare it to your side ones, or use a #2 pencil for a tracing and use that to compare.

You know what that means??? Somebody over at Porsche is sleeping. They could easily charge $400 to black these things out.

In case you havent noticed, THey do this stuf on purpose to encourage you to spend money. If you want painted washers, you pay. But the door handles come stock with exterior color paint. And the wing on a GTS comes stock in exterior color paint. My point here is if you're going for a "black theme" or an "exterior color theme", you are gonna have to spend money somehwere to get everything to sync up. If you don't spend the money you will have a mix of black and exterior color trim pieces. Let's not forget about the chrome "PORSCHE" across the back. They will happily black it out for you!

not even close. The rear logo is much larger than the side flap versions.

No it's not. I measure 6 3/4" length and the S and y seem to be the same height.

Moe had tried it and did not work. Said the edges of the logo is different, guess the corner of the S is longer or something like that. Plus rear badge does not have pins.

The pins are not needed since new 3M tape would be applied...most emblems use just 3M tape without pins.

Anybody have a picture of the back of one of these? I would like to know where the pins are so I can carefully remove the emblem for re-use.

No, too long. I happen to have one that I plan to put on the back of the car and I just measured it to be 9 1/4".
