2021 Tayacan, 911, and 718 - Stop Sale Notification (Los Angeles Region)
I posted this on the Dealer Allocation thread, but did not get much response (probably because I thread highjacked - sorry!)
Here is what I posted:
Hey everyone! New to the forum, but long time Porsche owner. Signed up to see if you all could help...
I put a deposit down to hold and buy a 2021 GT4 (dealer allocation I believe). Spec'd nicely and it wasn't taken. The same night, I get a call back from the SA saying PCNA issued a "stop sale" on several 718's, 911's, and Taycan's. What are the odds?!?!? Took me several weeks to find a GT4 I liked that wasn't already sold, spoken for, or allocated somewhere else.
My question to you all: Does anybody know any details about the "stop sale" in the LA Region? Is it onlLA Region?
Based on the notification, I would think more 718's are effected by this and not just limited to 64 vehicles in the LA Region Area. There are a couple more GT4's at other LA Region Dealers that where on the list (I got a copy of the VIN list).
For now, I am waiting on updates from my SA and PCNA in Atlanta. My GT4 is sitting in the service area waiting...
Thanks in advance for ALL the insights and help. Apologize in advance if this is not the right place/thread. I blame it on being a noob...
Edit: Notification of stop sale was on February 26, 2021
Anybody have any additional insights? My GT4 is currently sitting, collecting dust in the service garage, at a Dealership and they have not been given ANY details to the fix, etc.
I can imagine the LA Region and the 718's in that area are NOT the only cars that are effected by this issue. Doesn't the GT4 share some suspension components with the GT3? Are GT3's effected too??
Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like this affects a very limited batch of locknuts, so wouldn't affect all cars and the suspension is from the 991.2 GT3 that was manufactured back in 2018, so that would be fine. Given how fastenings are mass produced, it does seem odd that such a small sample is affected though.

Unsure what additional info your looking for. The bulletin explicitly states the issue and solution. Literally nut and bolt replacement...I’m sure they’ll have yours in delivery condition chop chop.

- Are there additional cars outside the LA Region?
- Are there already sold cars in NA in customers hands that have this issue (so it extends beyond a stop sale)?
- What part of the suspension is effected?
- When will the detailed fix process be sent to Dealers?
All that might be unuptanium, but it never hurts to seek out and ask...

Someone just posted same in 718 forum.
My 2021 Sep build is recall free.
My local dealer has a new BGTS that is not affected and is for immediate delivery.
Post up if your SM forwards any info.

Sounds like there is more then just 69 cars in the LA Region and this is now a global (NA and Europe) stop sale issue.
If this was a simple lock nut and bolt issue and replacement, I think Porsche would have resolved this or at least sent out a "fix notice" to the Dealers.

My Spyder, built 12/6/2020 was held in Jacksonville for 38 days, Jan 17th - Feb 25th, on a mechanical hold awaiting parts from Germany, the dealer could not get any more detail than that but it sounds suspiciously like this issue. Other GT4's and Spyder that came over on the same boat were released so it would appear to be production date specific.

My CGTS 4.0 arrived in Atlanta today and the SA said it is subject to an unannounced stop sale order. He says they don’t know why it’s held but can’t be sold. If it’s a known issue with the locknuts I would think he would know what the issue is.
If the issue is the announcement of the faulty locking suspension bolts posted above on 3/9/21, I don’t understand why it would be a stop sale order for an unknown reason. I’m guessing there is a second issue.

My GT4 arrived at my dealer outside Baltimore yesterday, and it's subject to the same hold. I was hoping to at least do the paperwork so I can have my bank complete the loan, but the dealer said Stop Sale means they can't do a thing with it until further notice.

I just reached out to my SA as well. My Spyder hasn't even made it to Baltimore yet and then will be on to Houston by early April. He did confirm that last last night they got a notice and that my car is in the VIN range for this new stop sale order. He said that this is a different VIN range from the previous suspension issue and he is not yet aware of the cause. He only received the specific VIN list mid-day today. Time to wait and see what this turns up but I would rather they catch an issue before I take delivery than after!

Seems like we all have to go thru a right of passage...whether allocations, EPA/CARB hold, stop sale, etc...
Few get their car without a story; spec showroom cars excluded...haha
Part of the charm!
