ECU tune to bring back pops and bangs
#31
To be honest many of the pops and bangs that people owners experienced with their 981 GT4 / Spyder are still somewhat present with the 718 GT4 / Spyder also. Albeit muted by the factory exhaust system, especially the headers.
Video of our car, huge cracks and pops on the downshifts (auto blip off as this is only good for driving down the shops)

I would suggest looking into the hardware before exploring the software route

That... sounds exactly like a modern Porsche track car. Close my eyes and that might as well be an RSR; and I've heard these cars first hand many times now. That was really amazing. Not something you would probably want to street drive, but the fact the car has that in it is really quite redeeming after the rather unfortunate (but understandable) stock exhaust result.
This particular set up is one of the more extreme hence the volume but yes, it does sound great, as you might expect from us by now

I mean with the valves kept always open due to my previous faulty controller, I did hear a good amount of pops. However, with valves always open, I also heard a lot of drone so I had to revert back to stock PSE controller. I think if PSE controller would open the valves around 3K rpm instead of 5K rpm, I would hear enough of the pops and also not so much of the drone.

Which PSE muffler replacement are you running? Unrestricting the exhaust flow is key towards ensuring maximum effect on the already inherently tuned pops/burbles on decel with the factory software. yes this effect can be tastefully accented via ECU software and Softronic can do this with a quite a nice increase in performance. That said, the cost is $1290, the ECU has to come in and out of the car, and tuning your ECU is less of a gray area with dealership warranty than a simple exhaust change. You said you already experienced quite a bit more burble with valves open all the time but just didn't enjoy the drone. You should strongly consider pursuing a valve control modification. You can install our valve controller kit below using Method A and keep the valves open 100% of the time when you want, then revert back to standard PSE operation at the press of a button. Or you also wait for the coming release of DSC's suspension module (already a superb upgrade) but with the add-on for valve control customization. From my chats with Tom and Mike at DSC...this will essentially give you the ability to tune your own valve control to do what you want...when you want...using whatever button you want that operates off the CanBus. This is in the final stages of development and we look forward to working with DSC to release it this year.

Just wanted to give an update regarding the DSC valve controller as I received a mail from Tom telling that their module works great controlling valve at the driver's will.
The only problem seems to be their supply chain for mass producing it, perhaps because of COVID?. Anyway he said it might pass a few more months before be widely available.
If I get relevant info I will start a new thread on this. I'm really looking forward being able have a custom valve operation. Even If I would only be able to program a simple IF-THEN sentence like "PSE OFF: Valves always closed between 1800 - 5500 RPM, otherwise Opened" I would be very interested. Now If I could add more variables such us engine load that would be awesome..
