The 911 T I am (was) considering is 7 speed manual. What is a manual PDK transmission? sorry for the basic question.

*all* the 7 speed manuals are based on the PDK transmission, modified to operate manually ... the 6MT in the GT cars is a different beast entirely designed as a manual from the get go...

Which, IMO, makes then slightly "vague", especially when downshifting from 7 to 6. The 6-speed GT box is excellent.

The 7 speed, 1-2 blip, is crap mated to a turbo engine. Especially if you crank up the boost. Didnt like it. The spyder is like butter (minus the 1-2 grind).

Many of us that have owned both much prefer the mid-engine cars.

However, everyone should own a 911 once to appreciate just how good the mid-engine cars are.

- really drivetrain wise and chassis (I would contend) there is no comparison!

I went from 718 GTS 6MT to 991.2 GTS PDK and then 718 GT4 6MT. The 718 platform is just that good if you care about fun factor immensely.

Coming from a boxster, i thought of "upgrading" to a 911 and that I would find the above with the 911 CT. The moonroof, somewhat providing some of the open air experience.
I see now, the Spyder might be the better "upgrade"... please keep it coming...
I had the exact same dilemma. I found a 911 T 2019 wtih 588 miles for $98k at a dealer and could not decide which to purchase.

I ended up choosing the Spyder because i want to experience both. The limited run and limited timeline for NA mid engine made me choose the Spyder. The 911 T Spec wasnt perfect (i didn't love the carbon bucket seats on a non GT car) I and have better odds experiencing the T in the future then a brand new Spyder. i am not sure this helps but wanted to share. Good luck!

My feeling on this is that there will be a better iteration of the 911 T with 992, but possibly never a better version of the spyder. Regret minimization = spyder. I am of course biased

Thank you all for the feedback and the explanations. My wife said if it is a 911 it has to be PDK so she can drive too (she can't drive manual cars). So the Spyder way we go... I think I got stuck in the dilemma because I once wanted a base 911 a bit special, but I get it that the Spyder is the car to own. IF only I could convince this AD to work with me on the PTS... I initially wanted chalk or carrara white, but I found out that PTS was available. theoretically at least as the AD keeps telling me it is near impossible to get on the Spyder. Is that your experience?

the spyder allocations are already in pretty tight demand and only a subset of them are eligible for PTS. It’s doable but it will delay your car a long time. What your AD is trying to tell you is he can’t promise this will work out and it might take an extra year. And indeed for this specific dealer maybe never. If you must you must, but for me the opportunity cost of not driving the car for the extra time was unbearable.

ps the MT in the spyder/ gt4 is fantastic and your wife could easily learn MT on it. Auto blip matches revs on the down shifts and if you keep your student shifting around 4500rpm the rpm band is so large they won’t over rev it. The gears are pretty long and the torque accommodating. It’s both fast and friendly

This is a GT4/Spyder forum, of course in choosing the Spyder.

I did this for a while. Manual Miata and PDK 991.

Totally different experience.

991 is gone and waiting for manual Spyder.

Miata made me a drop top convert. Now I will have 2 drop tops. Will let you guys know how it turns out. I drive the Miata in the snow also when it is not too deep.

I wanted a Spyder but ended up with a GT4. But out of everything available (Spyder/GT4) there were too many compromises I wasn't willing to make. And now I am pretty glad I got a GT4 instead. Even my non-car enthusiast friends say it looks fast just sitting there haah

Regardless you won't be wrong either way

I get the dealer's message. I did repeatedly mention I don't mind waiting an additional 6 months for it. The idea is that it will be my special car. Also, here in Dubai, in a couple of months it will be too hot to drive with the top down as the Spyder is meant to be driven. That explains why the GT4 is more popular. Anyway, you convinced me to stick with my first choice, the Spyder, and just forget about the CT...

@ AlexCeres and all: any idea as to what the criteria of eligibility for PTS are?
