I'm asking about the length of the red sections, not the numbers or what the different sections mean, thanks. This picture was taken shortly after warming the car up, barely, and these are not the normal operating temperatures. Those would be closer to 220 for water during and 230+/- for oil during casual driving.

been busy, but i just conducted this experiment today. Added a half cup of 50:50 mix. I *think* that topped me off but the MAX level measurement with the floating pin and owners manual which makes no mention of it are pretty baffling. In retrospect I probably should have consulted YouTube instead.

it appears to have made no difference in the instrument panel electric gauge whatsoever.

Given the overall volume of the cooling system, I doubt a 4oz change would make any difference in the gauge reading.

My guess is the gauge is as designed and reading correctly. That’s how it looks on my 2021 Spyder.

Thermal stress on most modern cars comes around 260 coolant and 300 oil which looks to be represented by the bars.

Pulling up an old thread. Does anyone know if the red bars change? My coolant all of a sudden heats up very quickly and I think the red bar is now longer. Started car this morning and coolant read 90°F, by the time I got out of my neighborhood it was already 200°F

Side question: Are all these pics of the MFD gauges from GT4/Spyders? (Seems to be given the RPM redline at 8K)

My GTS4.0 and 981 Coolant Temp never exceeds 194F, as previously discussed in many threads regarding coolant temp..... interesting to see Coolant temps above 194F for street driving.

So do the GT4/Spyders not have the Coolant Temp Gauge software that displays the temperature at 194F until it goes too high, then reads 2XX?

Yes, GT4. My coolant temp is always above 200°F. Does your red bar look like mine?

My coolant temp is generally 194 and my oil is generally around 216-218. That's on a GTS 4.0, manual, in "Individual" mode (which is Sport mode with the active motor mounts and rear end enabled). I did not find that changing modes effected temps. Maybe when driven hard, as others said, but on the street, no real differences that I could tell. This was when driving in winter and spring here in NY, so nothing above 70* yet.

I think the reason the coolant red line is longer than the oil temp red line is because coolant is "red" or in danger zone at a lower temp than oil, and these two gauges are on the same scale. (note that in post 24, both gauges are at about 225 when half way up the gauge). Therefore, coolant needs to be in the red at about 240 (my estimate) vs oil doesn't need to be in the red until a higher number, say 275 or more.

It's like the difference between the GTS tach and the GT4 tach. Same tach, lower redline. The GTS tach has 1200 RPM worth of red and GT4 has 1000 RPM worth of red.
